Is the way you are feeling related to something such as your hormones and the time of the month? Have you felt this way for a while or has there been a trigger that made you feel worse? Is there something specific that is bothering you, or is it more of an overall feeling? Or do you perhaps just have the urge to try and better yourself to see where you end up?
It could be that the impending new year has you looking forward to your goals and what you want to achieve in 2023. Whatever it is, there’s no better time than the present to get focusing on yourself. Here we have put together some top tips to help you feel better about yourself that you can start doing right away.
Practice mindfulness
The first step to feeling better about yourself is to take a look at your mental health. You might not realize what an impact your mental health is having on your everyday life until you get it sorted and you will wonder just why you didn’t amend it sooner. There are many elements to sorting your mental health and mindfulness is one of the best ways to do this.
Take a few minutes out of your day in the morning and evening to sit and reflect. You could meditate or write down your thoughts. The idea is to sort through the way you are thinking and feeling, acknowledging and recognizing these emotions. If there is anything negative there it can help you to sort through them and make you feel a lot better about yourself. Looking into things such as mindfulness meditation can be a real help for many.
Ensure you have enough sleep every day
We’ve all had the odd night’s sleep where we’ve tossed and turned and woken up feeling crabby. Yet did you know that not having enough sleep every night can leave you feeling lethargic and negative, even if you might think you’ve slept okay. To ensure this doesn’t happen, make sure to have at least 7-9 hours of sleep a night and try to get into a good bedtime routine.

This involves having a relaxing place to sleep and ensuring you are free of distractions for a good hour before settling down. This includes not going on your phone or watching TV and letting your brain relax and wind down. Try to optimize the temperature of the room so it’s not too hot or cold and ensure there’s enough air circulating, either from a fan or from an open window. Opening your window for a little while each day is also great for this.
Focus on your diet
Eating healthily and getting enough nutrients and vitamins are imperative when you want to feel better about yourself. By getting the right amount of vegetables, protein, and the other elements in your body, you will find your hair, nails, and skin look healthier and you feel better in yourself too. If you are continuously eating refined sugar and fatty foods, this will show both on the inside and outside, so keeping to these just as treats is a much better idea.
You will also find by eating well and drinking enough water that you have more energy and sleep better through the night.
Get exercising
Exercise is not the favorite pastime of many, but if you find the right exercise for you, you’ll be surprised at how much it can be enjoyed. If you are someone that hates the gym, you’re not alone, but why not consider a class? You could try an aerial class, body pump, or circuit.

These are also great ways to find other people similar to you that you could become friends with and put the fun into exercise. Exercise will also get the endorphins flowing and have your body feeling and looking stronger and more toned.
Start a skincare routine
If you aren’t happy with your skin it can give you a real knock on how you feel about yourself. To combat this, start a skincare routine. You could have acne, in which case researching acne tips is a real help. There are many tips out there for acne to help it get better and to find out the root cause of why you have it.
When looking after your skin, you want a routine that is tailored to your specific skin type so it doesn’t exacerbate any problems or cause any new ones to occur. You want to cleanse, tone, and moisturize and it’s important to switch it up depending on the time of year too!
Get on track with your finances
If you are suffering from financial stress, this can put a big strain on how you feel about yourself. If you have debt, then sit down and make a plan of how you can pay this back. Even paying back a little above the minimum threshold a month can get rid of it much sooner and stop you from falling foul of astronomical interest rates and other charges that you might be experiencing from your debt.
Hang out with people that make you feel happy
The people you spend your time with can have a big impact on how you feel about yourself. If you find you leave after spending time with friends and worry about what was said or feel like they put you down, it can play a big part in your happiness as a whole. Instead, surround yourself with people who you don’t have to second-guess yourself with and who you leave after spending time with them feeling happy and content. They likely won’t talk about others behind your back and will be kind, gentle, and understanding to your face.

Learn a new skill
New skills are a fantastic thing to focus on. They can help to give you a purpose and also give you something to do rather than scrolling through social media on your phone. There is a world of new skills you can pick up, from photography to graphic design, learning to play the piano, DIY crafts and painting.
Think about what you’re interested in, what you enjoy, and if there is something you have always wanted to learn. You could find an external teacher who can show you how to learn your skill, or you could register for an online course to learn.
Get up earlier in the morning
If you are a late riser, try to get up that bit earlier. The morning is valuable time in the day and once you force yourself up, you can get a lot more done, freeing up your evenings. Many people tend to wake up later than they’d like and end up rushing around in the evening trying to get tasks done or see friends and family.
By getting up just half an hour earlier you could squeeze in some time in the gym or go for a walk around the block. You could learn that skill you’ve been wanting to do, write in your journal, or eat a leisurely breakfast.

These are just a few top things you can do that can help you to feel better about yourself in no time at all. The best thing about most of these is that they don’t need to cost anything and won’t mean you need to change a large portion of your life or even just your daily routine in order to implement them.
Mindfulness is something that can be done for just ten minutes a day if you want and the benefits will soon be able to be felt. Exercising can just be a little bit in the morning or evening and a skincare routine, once you have got into the swing of it, is easier than you would imagine getting into the habit of doing. Be sure to always be proud of yourself and what you are doing, recognizing that it’s a difficult thing to do and persevere with. Implementing change can be a tricky task, but once it’s done you’ll look back on your journey and won’t be able to believe how far you’ve come.
