Travel is an important part of living and it’s something that every person should try and do as much of in their lifetime. Imagine being on this earth and not wanting to see at least a portion of it. It’s impossible to visit every corner of the earth in a person’s lifetime but that knowledge alone should be inspiring anyone to get on a plane for a spontaneous trip away.
If you’re looking to make the most of your travel adventures this year, it’s worth finding ways to make them even more memorable so that those memories will last forever. Of course, some holidays can become a distant memory over time but what you do whilst you’re there, can make a big difference to how much of your memory retains these special moments.
Here are some great tips on how to help make your travel adventures more memorable from now on.
Get a world map for pinning destinations
Planning on visiting as many places as physically possible? We get it. A great way of making sure this happens successfully is by getting a printout of the world map and putting it up on a wall somewhere in the home. You can then pin places that you’ve visited, perhaps including a little memory in the form of a polaroid or a little trinket to show a memory from that excursion.
There are also some world maps that you can get that are scratch-off so that you can slowly reveal every country in the world. Of course, you may not be able to get around every country for time or money but you can certainly give it a go.
It’s a great way of motivating yourself and making sure you tick as many off as physically possible.
Plan with itineraries
To help make the vacation as memorable as possible, it’s all about what you get up to when you’re there. From activities to exploring different areas of the location and meeting new people. The more time you fill up in your schedule, the more you’re going to experience and get crammed in before returning home.
That’s why it’s useful to plan with itineraries. This is a great way to get the most out of your time, especially if you’re limited in the number of days or nights you have to visit. Sometimes, a vacation may only be a long weekend or it may be two weeks. Regardless of the time you do have available, make the most of it and plan out a hefty itinerary to get the most out of it all.
However, while planning is good, make sure to allocate some time in the trip for spontaneity. Sometimes, the best memories come from being spontaneous.
Invest in good photography and videography equipment
When it comes to capturing memories, it’s always useful to get some of these moments snapped behind the lens of a camera or through video content. There are lots of good photography and videography options out there to make the most out of your travels.
For some, travel comes with the job and so combining the two can be a lot of fun. For the type of content that’s worth getting if you’re filming so pretty impressive content for social media profiles, try a drone. The DJI Mavic 3 classic , for example, is a great option for those who are wanting to enjoy the incredible technology of this equipment in order to capture the world around them.
Think about having a good camera and video device, as well as your mobile phone. Some mobile phones are just as high-quality as some of the professional cameras on the market.
Keep a journal – online or offline!
Locking in those memories and keeping them memorable can sometimes be difficult and with life in general, it’s not possible to remember every single day of your life.
While that might be sad, it doesn’t mean you can’t record it in some way. Keeping a journal is a great way of getting the most out of your travels, especially if you’re someone who loves to write. Writing a journal might be something you do online or offline, depending on your preference.
For many nowadays, owning an online blog is a way of capturing content from life and getting it down in a diary – but in digital form.
If you’re someone who loves traditions and fancies having something that is digitally controlled, it may be a diary that you get yourself. There are plenty of variations when it comes to diaries too from short entry types to those where you can write a whole page per day.
Book some thrill-seeking activities
While you’re out on your travels, don’t forget to make some memories in the best way possible – by putting yourself through some thrill-seeking activities. While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, there are some fantastic opportunities to gain once-in-a-lifetime experiences of all shapes and sizes.
From swimming in the great barrier reef to sky diving and skiing, try to find all of the relevant thrill-seeking activities in the local area. Make sure you’re getting out and seeing the area, rather than being confined to just your hotel room. The more you can see of the world the better, but that’s not going to happen from the constricts of your resort hotel.
Try everything at least once
When it comes to seeing the world if you don’t try something – how do you know if you like it or not? Often enough, we can get put off by things simply because they don’t look quite like something we’re used to. Take food cuisines, for example, there may be some extremely unusual dishes and delicacies that you come across.
Instead of grimacing and saying no quickly, why not try it? Having the motto of trying everything once can make a big difference in your experiences and is something you’ll appreciate doing in hindsight.
Take a moment to be present
Whenever you’re away on your travels, take a moment to be present. Stop what you’re doing, think about where you are or what you’re doing, and just bask in that moment. It’s something that many of us can often forget to do because we’re so driven to do everything now and as quickly as possible.
We want to go from one place to another, looking forward to one thing while still doing something else. Stop, breathe, and take in the life you’re living right now. It’s pretty cool, huh?
Try to do this on every travel adventure you go on and make these moments random in their occurrence. You’ll end up with some core memories as a result that will hopefully last for an eternity.
Interact with locals and make friends
Often enough, some travelers can get nervous when it comes to meeting new people when on vacation. However, this is the best time to meet people because there are so many interesting people out there.
Try to interact with any locals you come into contact with and who knows what they might uncover for you to explore while you’re there. After all, the locals will have the best advice when it comes to what’s out there to try out.
Don’t be afraid to make new friends when you’re vacationing too. Meet those who are like you and you may end up finding people that become lifelong friends in the process.
Invite the right people
The people you travel with, will make a difference to your travels – guaranteed. At the end of the day, you don’t want to have people in your party that aren’t willing to visit certain places or take part in certain activities. While everyone is different, you don’t want to find yourself traveling to a new place and finding that you didn’t get everything you wanted, done. Of course, no one is obligated to come, and sometimes they might not have the means to. If you really want someone there, consider helping to support them, perhaps using tools to send money to Mexico to help your family go on the journey with you.
Think carefully about who you’re going to bring along on your adventures so that you choose the right people. That way, you’ll get the best experiences out of your vacation, rather than regret and frustration. Some travel trips can often be an eye-opener about who is a friend or great family member and who you’ll swear to never travel with again!
Try solo travel
Talking of taking the right people with you, why not travel solo? Solo travel is a great opportunity to take advantage of and can be a great way to try out traveling on your todd. This is something that many do and there are specific organizations that help bring solo travelers together so that they can explore an area as a group.
It may not be for everyone but it can certainly be an adventure to do on your own. Some prefer the company of others but it may be more convenient and cost-effective to do the trip alone instead.
Making your travel adventures more memorable is something any traveler should focus on when it comes to travel in the new year. What are you waiting for? Get booking those flights!
