It is so important to have some sort of physical movement every day. You can call it exercise, body movement, physical stimulation, whatever floats your boat! In my Coaching practice I’ve heard it called many different things.
I’ve heard many reasons to not participate in exercise. They have varied from lack of time, to not knowing what to do, all the way to not liking exercise. While I can’t force anyone to get some good exercise in, I can make it easier for you. There was a time when I didn’t enjoy it either, now I LOVE to workout and get my blood flowing!
The first thing I did was try a lot of different types of exercise to discover what was out there. I hunt out deals on Groupon and Living Social so that I’m not out a ton of money if I despise the workout. By doing this I found out that Zumba was not my thing but I adore BootCamp and Kickboxing. I’ve also played around with Pilates, Yoga, Belly Dancing, Piyo (before it was all the rage), Cardio Blast, Barre, and a ton of others that are out there. You DON’T have to do the same type of workout that everybody else is doing! Workouts come and go in fads, one day Zumba is hot and the next day it will be something else; don’t shoot for trendy shoot for what you are going to do.
You also don’t have to exercise in a group environment. If groups aren’t your thing then buy some DVD’s or download them online. I love to stream workouts through Gaiam or on YouTube and do them in the privacy of my own home. If classes aren’t your thing then you can also go for walks, bike rides, running, and lifting weights at home. The key is finding what works for you!
By incorporating a good workout routine into your life you will see muscle development, strength, flexibility, increased energy, increased moods, and a drop in stress levels just to name a few of the benefits.
So…. Get Moving!
Whats your favorite ways to get moving and add some exercise to your day?
This is great information. Hopefully it will inspire me to get moving myself.
Great tips! I made it a habit to put on my tennis shoes when I get home for lunch. And then I go for a walk. The habit was to change clothes, even if I didn’t get outside. Eventually i just did it-because that’s what i do during my lunch. Best to try to make it a habit!
Great job, getting in the habit of walking!
Everytime I have to convince myself to workout, I think about that scene in Legally Blonde. Such a classic! I’m a video junkie but I’ve recently discovered free videos on YouTube, too! Who knew!
Great post. I agree with you about finding a workout that you will enjoy doing otherwise you won’t stay committed which is a problem i’m trying to overcome right now. hahaa We share similar workout interests I enjoy moderate to intense cardio training as well. Working out does calm your nerves and once you’re done you feel so much better about yourself!
