Having a homemade vanilla chai tea latte on hand is basically like having my favorite coffee shop in my kitchen. Just a great recipe to start the day with–without having to drive anywhere.
When you want something a little different from a plain cup of black tea or coffee, this homemade vanilla chai latte has your back. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love a good cup of joe. But sometimes, a girl’s gotta have something with a bit more fun.
With this chai tea latte, you get that gooey caramel mixed with fabulous sweet and spicy smooth chai flavors, and a burst of coffee for a quick pick-me-up to get you started or keep you going.
This chai tea latte recipe is quickly becoming my favorite, even over hopping in the car to hit Dunkin Donuts. Because, actually, I kind of hate driving over there, so that’s a bonus, too.
You’ll seriously love this chai latte recipe. It’s great for breakfast, or you can serve it as an after-dinner drink, or for a delicious afternoon treat. This is sure to be a favorite.

What do you need to make a Caramel Vanilla Chai Tea Latte?
- 2 cups of water
- 2 whole peppercorns (you can sub for 1/4 teaspoon of white pepper, if you need to)
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 cup of strong fresh brewed coffee
- 2 tea bags – black or orange pekoe
- 3 Tablespoon’s of caramel sauce
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 2 Tablespoons of honey
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream – or half-n-half or even almond milk
- Whipped cream for topping
- Caramel sauce for topping
You can also top with brown sugar, because that’s amazing. But think about what you love on top of your favorite coffee house drink.
Cinnamon? Chocolate shavings? Just think about it and get creative!
Makes 2 eight-ounce servings, so you can share. But you don’t have to. No judging.
How do you make Vanilla Chai Tea Latte?
In a small saucepan, combine the water, peppercorns, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon sticks, and bring to a boil; leave on a low boil for about 10 minutes, to make sure all the spices are released.
Turn off the heat, and add the coffee and tea bags.
Steep the tea bags for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove the tea bags, and add the vanilla and caramel sauce, and stir to blend.
Add the heavy cream, (or half-n-half) and honey, and stir.
Pour the latte into a glass or mug, and top with whipped cream and caramel sauce.
Serve immediately. Enjoy!
