Want to live your best life in 2020? Read on to discover the habits you need to quit to make that happen!
As hard as it can be to believe, healthy and fit people are not just born knowing how to take care of their bodies and feel great about themselves. Just like everyone else, they have to learn what works and what doesn’t.
One of the most significant differences between those who find it hard to get themselves motivated to live a healthy lifestyle and those who are ready and raring to go all of the time is habit, and how they deal with them. Of course, not all habits are harmful – some, like drinking plenty of water, are good ones.
However, every habit that you have will have some effect on your health and overall well being, and if you want to live your best life and be healthy and fit, there are some that you need to think about quitting.
Habits You Need To Quit to Live Your Best Life Now:
Not moving –
While technology is generally a great thing, it has encouraged more and more of us to live a much more sedentary lifestyle. Instead of going out, we are on our phones or devices, binge-watching our favorite shows on Netflix, and sat in front of a computer working all day.
We do not even need to leave the house to get our grocery shopping anymore – we can have that delivered straight to the comfort of our own home!
We spend all night lying down, get up and get into a car, or onto a bus or train for our commute to work where we sit down again, sit down working on a computer all day, and repeat the commute home.
Because we are so exhausted from long working hours, our downtime is spent, you guessed it, sitting down.
All of this sitting around is far from good for our health. It can cause issues with our weight and circulation, which has a knock-on effect on just about all other aspects of our health. This sedentary lifestyle habit that many of us have unwittingly found ourselves in needs to be broken if there is any chance of becoming healthy and fit.
This means getting up and going for a walk or a run, heading to the gym, going for a swim – even getting off the bus a stop earlier and completing the rest of the journey by foot!
The more you exercise, the more comfortable, and more enjoyable, you will find it.
Putting toxic substances into our body –
One of the very worst things that you can do for your body is to smoke, drink alcohol, or take drugs, whether they are illegal or prescription. By putting these into our body regularly is not the way towards a healthy lifestyle.
Eventually, our bodies will begin to shut down, leaving you prone to illness and disease. The problem with these habits is that they are incredibly difficult to break – they are addictions.
However, once they are broken, you will be amazed at how much healthier you feel. If you are struggling to give up the alcohol or quit drugs, professional help may be the way forward. When it comes to smoking, many decide to turn to e-cigarettes and e liquid to help them manage the transition.
Not believing in yourself –
One of the biggest obstacles in front of leading a healthy lifestyle is low self-confidence and self-esteem.
When our mental health is not in tip-top condition, it can make us want to curl up and do nothing, make poor choices in regards to our diet and close ourselves off from the world. It’s all about our mindset!
This impacts on our physical health, which then affects our mental health even further, and we get trapped in a vicious cycle.
Being confident in yourself means you are more likely to go out, face the world, and get some physical exercise.
Making poor diet choices –
We all know that Chinese takeout or a big slice of cake is not healthy, but if eaten in moderation and as part of a healthy and balanced diet, it is fine.
However, too much junk food can make us put on weight and clog up arteries, even if we look okay on the outside. It can lead to high blood pressure and increased risks of heart attacks, heart disease, and strokes, as well as increasing our risk of contracting various forms of cancer.
It also makes us feel tired and lethargic.
To maintain a balanced diet and keep you feeling healthy both on the inside and out, do your best to eat a minimum of five portions of fruit and vegetables every day, oily fish up to three times a week to help boost our mental energy and plenty of protein to keep us feeling full and give us energy.
Try to limit the amount of fat, sugar, and salt in your diet, and do not forget to check the labels of processed foods.
Make the best choice you can to fuel your body with the nutrients it needs and you’ll find that you have the energy to live your best life!
Following the crowd –
Just because your friends and family are (or are not) doing something that doesn’t mean you have to follow suit.
This habit of falling in with the crowd and agreeing to comply with what everyone else is doing is something that can cause many problems.
If you know you want to go to the gym after work, but everyone else you know is heading out to a club, it can seem like the most natural path to take to join them. Breaking this habit and being your own person when you want and need to be is essential.
Once you can forge your own path, you will be able to choose to do the things that make you healthier, including heading to the gym and not the bar, for example.
It does not matter what everyone else is doing – what matters is what you do.
Not getting enough sleep
Getting enough sleep is one of the most important things we can do for our body. But it can be one of the hardest habits for a entrepreneur or hustler to break.
Try to aim for between eight and ten hours of quality sleep every night.
If you are struggling to fall asleep, reduce the amount of caffeine that you drink, switch off screens at least an hour before bedtime, and take a warm bath (with epsom salts!) to relax your body and your mind.
By implementing some of these changes, you will soon begin to feel happier, healthier, and fitter in no time! The opportunity to live your best life is yours for the taking!
