Self-care can manifest in your life in a myriad of ways. The most important part about self-care is not really how or when it happens, so long as it happens.
It’s incredibly important that you’re caring for yourself and establishing time and energy towards doing exactly that. Here we’re going to cover a few different ways self-care can look and how you might incorporate that into your lifestyle.
How Self-Care Can Manifest in Your Life
Retail Therapy
One of the most common ways to care for yourself is to treat yourself. Retail therapy can look different from person to person. Maybe you’re someone who loves clothes. Self-care for you could be buying yourself a new outfit or two. Maybe you’re someone who enjoys a good meal and therefore eating out is a treat. Whatever it may be, treating yourself is a great way self-care can manifest in your life.
This could also look like a home improvement project for any of those who like to decorate or build things. While your furnace is designed to last for 15 to 20 years, other aspects of the home need to be maintained far more frequently.
Even just a fresh coat of paint for your living room or kitchen could be an act of self-care. This may be something to consider as we are spending more time inside our homes anyway.
Take Time for Hobbies
Another great way to do self-care is by setting aside time for the things you enjoy. Do you like to read? Hike or camp? Do you enjoy creating art or playing music? Any of these things can be acts of self-care.
For example, if you’re someone who really enjoys spending time outdoors, but doesn’t get to do so often because of working or whatever it may be, taking some time off from work and planning a trip outdoors is a perfect example of a way to care for yourself.
More than one-third of people (37%) report looking at an outdoor ad each or most of the time they pass one, so it’s likely spending some time outdoors will lift your spirits. Make sure you’re setting aside time for the activities you enjoy doing.
Take Care of Your Body
Taking care of your body can mean a couple of different things. For example, this could mean making sure you are getting enough exercise on a weekly basis. It could also mean making sure you’re eating the right foods so your body is fueled correctly.
Maybe it means setting aside time to take a nap and ensure you get some rest. For others, it could be seeing a doctor or specialist about something you want to fix. For example, if you’re unhappy with your smile, seeing a dentist about what options you have available to you can be an act of self-care. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, some 4 million Americans are wearing braces. Maybe braces or Invisalign is the move you need to make to feel more confident. Doing so would be an excellent example of self-care.
Whatever it may be, setting time and energy aside for something that makes you feel good is the essence of self-care. After all, you only have yourself, so make sure that you’re doing a good job caring for you.
