Heart Mug Rug and Coffee Cozy Gift for my Galentines

Let me tell you friends, I would be lost with out my fellow boss girls! I have an incredible tribe of amazing women that I owe a good chunk of my sanity too! This year, for “Galentines”, I want to send them a little something to say thanks for all their love, support and encouragement But sending the perfect card just wasn’t enough for me… I had to make at least a part of it myself!

I had already picked out the perfect American Greetings cards at Walmart, but decided to also make a mug rug and coffee cozy gift for each of my BFFs. Along with a few personalized goodies thrown in for good measure! Cause what boss girl doesn’t rely heavily on some sort of caffeine these days? If you’re in the mood for some sewing, a little hand stitching and a whole lot of cuteness, then grab your supplies and lets get to making your own Heart Mug Rug and Coffee Cozy Gift!

Heart Mug Rug and Coffee Cozy Gift Supplies

Felt in 4 colors
Embroidery Floss (pink) and needle
Heart fabric in 2 colors/versions
Cotton Batting
White thread
Sewing Machine
Iron

Heart Mug Rug Directions

Step 1. Start by cutting out the hearts from your felt, roughly 1.5 inches in size. 1 in each color. If you want, you can stitch an initial or monogram on one of the hearts, like I did.

Step 2. Cut your fabrics and batting- 7 inches wide and 9 inches long.

Step 3. Take your top heart fabric and the batting. Match up the edgest and then decide on your felt heart placement. Top stitch the felt hearts in place with your sewing machine.

Step 4: Take your bottom fabric and lay it on top of the top fabric and felt hearts, right sides together. Pin in place, matching up the edges. Sew 1/4 inch around, leaving a 2 inch space so that you can turn the mug rug right side out.

Step 5: Trim the edges and corners. Turn right side out and push out the corners.

Step6: Iron flat, making sure that the space where you turned is tucked in. Top stitch around the mug rug. Tuck your threads and you’re done!

For the coffee cozy I used this tutorial and template, skipping the patch work part, opting insead to use the same heart fabric that I used for the top of the heart mug rug, and adding a hand stitched heart. All of the rest of the directions remain the same.

Aren’t they cute? I love this little matching set so much that I made 4!! 3 for my bestest gal pals and one for me 😀 But thats not all!

To make these the perfect Heart Mug Rug and Coffee Cozy Gift for my favorite Galentine’s I also added a cute little thermal mug, some chocolates, cute stickers and packaged it all up with some American Greetings gift bags and tissue paper!

But lets back up and talk about greeting cards for a minute! There is no better way to say I love you, you matter, and you’re important to me, than the perfect card and hand written note! I am almost always stocked up on American Greetings cards from Walmart for whatever occassions might arrise, but for valentine’s I had to grab a few new cards for my gal-pals. I also grabbed one for the hubby and for the in-laws 🙂

Cards are a perfect and easy way to tell someone you care, especially at valentines! And right now, there is an Ibotta Offer – Buy 1 card and earn $1.00!

Thank you for a great explanation. I was looking online for a similar idea and really appreciate it.
