This Easy Instant Pot Homemade Kahlua recipe makes for a delicious hot cocktail for a cool evening when you just want to get cozy! And what’s more cozy than a tasty cocktail, a snuggly blanket, and a good book? Sounds like a perfect night in if you ask me!
Being a DIY/crafty kind of girl I don’t always like running out to buy/spend money on a product when I could actually make the same thing with ingredients that I already have on hand.
So thats exactly what this recipe post is about! Creating your own Easy Instant Pot Homemade Kahlua… to add to whatever it is that needs a little kick (my go to is either hot cocoa for a grown up “mocha” style cocktail or I’ll add some to a cup of coffee).
Cause we’re all adults here (I’m assuming that if you’re reading this post you’re old enough to legally and responsibly drink where ever you live, aka you’re an adult), we can admit that from time to time it’s nice to enjoy a little something-something in our coffee or a cocktail. Especially when it’s time to relax.
A good quality White Russian or a kahlua spiked hot chocolate is one of my favorite hot drinks this time of year. And this homemade kahlua recipe makes for a delicious hot cocktail for a cool evening when you just want to get cozy!
And way better than store bought. WAY.
What You Need to Make Easy Instant Pot Homemade Kahlua:
- 5 cups very strong coffee or espresso (I prefer Seattle’s Best dark roast made SUPER STRONG for this–I don’t think instant coffee would taste very good as it’s hard to get the coffee crystals strong enough–start with a whole bean business)
- 4 cups granulated white sugar or sugar substitute
- 1.5 cups vodka
- 2 stripped vanilla bean stems or 2 teaspoons real vanilla extract
- Large mason jars or bottle with a stopper
- An Instant Pot
Easy Instant Pot Homemade Kahlua Directions :
Steps 1-5: Set Instant Pot to sauté. Add coffee, sugar, vanilla beans or extract to the Instant Pot and stir until sugar is melted. Allow mixture to come to a boil and turn off Instant Pot.
Step 6: Add vodka to mixture and whisk until incorporated.
Step 7: Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before pouring your DIY kahlua into mason jar or bottle.
You can use your Kahlua right away. BUT it’s worth noting that it just gets better with age 😊
And I don’t know if it’s 100 proof or if it’s 10 proof, but I do know it tastes amazing–and you don’t even need any simple syrup to make your cuppa awesome.
Keep this delicious Easy Instant Pot Homemade Kahlua in the fridge when you’re done with it. It’ll stay good a real long time… unless you drink it up.
Which is my problem. I can’t tell you exactly how long it will keep for because my enjoyment of kahlua coffee leads to this usually being gone with in a couple of weeks around here! The hubby is a fan of this recipe too.
This coffee flavored liqueur also makes a great Christmas gift idea for a cocktail loving friend! Tie a bow around the jar, add it to a basket with a cute mug and the other ingredients for a White Russian or hot chocolate mix, and you’ve got a fabulous gift featuring homemade coffee liqueur they can’t get anywhere else!

I am so glad I ran across your recipe. I love Kailua and the brand name is so so e pensive. The generic isn’t bad cost wise but I’m sure making it myself is definitely the way to go.

Does it have to be stored in the fridge or can you store it in a cool dark place if I’m making it a few weeks before Christmas?
Jennifer says
I’ve only kept mine in the fridge, so I can’t say exactly. I suppose it depends on how cool it is.
Stacy says
The steps go from 2 to 7. What happened to 3-6?
Jennifer says
Hi Stacy. I’m guessing you’re referring to the recipe card. I just fixed it. Steps 1-5 are grouped together and listed in the body of this recipe article.. Step 6 and Step 7 are there as well, they’re in between images.
