Cheesy Christmas Traditions that I Can’t Help but Love!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…and the cheesy Christmas traditions are all coming out to play. We all have traditions that no matter how cheesy they are we secretly love them and Christmas simply wouldn’t be the same without them. Here are 7 Cheesy Christmas traditions we all secretly love.

Cheesy Christmas Traditions that I Can't Help but Love!

Watching It’s a Wonderful Life

These days watching It’s a Wonderful Life is a time-honored tradition. But this hasn’t always been the case and in fact, the movie reviewed quite poorly when it originally released. It’s only a classic today because it was cheap to air on TV. These days movie theaters all over the world show it at Christmas time and you’re sure to see it on TV at least once. It may not be all that great of a movie but that isn’t stopping anyone from loving it.

Ugly Sweaters

Some people start shopping for their yearly ugly sweater before Halloween! These hideous sweaters are a staple for office workers and college kids. Worst of all they’re getting uglier every year! But that doesn’t stop us from loving them. Why would it?! They’re fun and a great way to get away with wearing that horrible sweater your Aunt Margaret bought you for Christmas without feeling awkward. They may be cheesy but we love our ugly sweaters.

Mistletoe

Mistletoe, the number one reason you walked around with lipstick marks on Christmas day. Most likely given to you by your Grand-Aunt Betty visiting from Florida. It’s a little bit cheesy, why does standing under a parasitic plant somehow equate to kissing? But it’s a great icebreaker and it gives you a sneaky chance to kiss that office crush, even if it is just the cheek. This is one tradition that is too useful and admittedly fun, to give up.

Christmas Songs

Ah, Christmas music it’s so upbeat and cheery. The cheese practically drips… It’s the most wonderful time of the year, delicious. These cheesy Christmas traditions we can’t get enough of. Every year artists release new Christmas albums, and even though they aren’t as good as our favorites we listen to them anyway. And why wouldn’t we?! They’re the perfect thing to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Family Photos

It happens every year, you dress up and sit down in front of your Christmas tree with your family for a photo that only the Grandparents care about. We whine and complain while we’re doing it, but if we ever stopped there would be a part of Christmas missing. How do you up the cheese factor? How about you toss on some ugly sweaters!

Christmas Cards

With the advent of social media and texting, we are able to constantly be in contact with our friends and family, without having to break out a pen. Despite this, we still send out Christmas cards every year. Nobody has to anymore, and they’re a little bit cheesy. But it’s so much fun to get mail that isn’t a bill or spam! Let’s hope this tradition never dies.

Hallmark Movies

They’re so bad they’re good, and I am definitely addicted. These movies are a hallmark of the holiday season. Every year Hallmark releases a new Christmas movie that usually involves lost love, a Scrooge, or family coming together. Most of the time they use more than one. These tv movies are cheaply made and a complete guilty pleasure!

I don’t do It’s a Wonderful Life or Ugly Christmas sweaters, but I’m guilty of all the others! I faithfully send out Christmas cards every year with family photos. My daughter is just as hooked on Hallmark movies, too!

Guilty of loving all the cheesy holiday traditions! We do all the above and we also love making Reindeer food as a family as well as putting out the cookies and milk.

We’re knee deep into all of the traditions at our house. In fact, just today I started getting the house ready for this weekend’s ugly sweater party. Yes, the mistletoe has been hung, a Christmasy music list has been created, and you can bet we’ll have movies like It’s a Wonderful Life + The Grinch playing in the living room. ‘Tis the season, after all! xx

I don’t think any of those are cheesy at all! Wouldn’t be completely Christmas if we didn’t do them! Mistletoes are the best excuse to kiss someone and all the lovely Christmas movies … well, I can’t watch enough of them!
