I got to go away this past weekend 🙂 I enjoyed a whole lot of girl time, a little bit of relaxing and finished 2 quilt tops! This was my third trip ( The first trip & The second trip.) to Sunset Retreat for a quilting weekend, and it gets better every time! I took a fair number of pictures this weekend, some you might have seen if you follow me on instagram, so be warned… picture overload ahead!
I got a prime spot this time! I was one of the first to arrive and get set up… so I scored a spot by the window AND the design wall! Whenever I needed a little mental break all I had to do was spin around and watch the snow fall 🙂 It really was a perfect weekend to escape, snuggle up and quilt away!
I’m so glad that I brought my fingerless gloves with me! The first couple hours of sewing with more ladies arriving and the outer doors being opened and shut repeatedly made for a cold work room!
One of the best things about these weekends is that they are totally casual… heck some of the ladies don’t even change out of their P.J.s until dinner time! 🙂 I got my Grace Tee just in time to take it with me and wear all day friday. I got lots of compliments too!
The first project on the design wall was my “pretty strings” quilt 🙂 I’ve talked about working on the blocks in a few different works in progress posts. Once I had everything on the wall, I realized I still needed 20+ more blocks to make it the size I wanted. That took up all of Thursday… Friday I goofed off a bit during the day. Of course there are no rules about what we have to do, but I had big aspirations for multiple projects. Anyyyyhoooo… I had fun during the day on friday.
Friday night after dinner, I hunkered down and got some serious sewing done. By 3 am my first quilt top was finished!! I’m madly in love with this beauty. IT was definitely a labor of love!
I can’t wait to get this baby quilted and add on the binding! This will be the first quilt top that I’ll be sending out to get professionally quilted. I’ve recently made a new friend that has a great big long arm and has offered to teach me how to use it too! I’ll be sure to share all about that experience when it happens too.
The last project I worked on the last time I was at the retreat was my vintage sheet quilt top. I’m happy to say its finished and ready to be professionally quilted too!! I added the last row pictured here… and 3 more after… I just didn’t have time to put it back on the wall and take a pic 🙂
I left saturday night to get back to my #monsterkittens, so I was moving pretty quickly to get things done 🙂 Don’t worry, I’ll be sharing pics as soon as its totally done! And hopefully that won’t be too long from now!!
The Boys definitely missed me! They still are barely letting me out of their sight as it is 🙂 Saturday night Bliss grabbed ahold of my foot/ankle and wouldn’t let go and Tang gave me a loving head butt every time I let go of his paw… we fell asleep like that 🙂 Gosh I love these two goofballs of mine!
All in all it was a fabulous weekend and I can’t wait to go back! Later this spring maybe….? 😉
Digging those fingerless gloves!
From following you on IG, I could tell you were enjoying yourself! How long have you been quilting? You are so talented!
That looks like so much fun. I am making it a point to learn how to quilt this year…must get started soon… 🙂
I love that first one! Our church has a weekly quilters evening – I might need to join and try making a quilt!
I need some fingerless gloves for when I'm blogging. haha! My fingers get so cold, even when its not even cold. They are freezing right now. Your quilt is super cute. I wished I had the patience to make one myself.
I love that quilt! I've only made a few, and they are definitely a labor of love.
What a fun time!! I would absolutely love to do this sometime. I’ve never made a quilt but it is on my to do list. I have saved all my kids baby clothes and hope to make each of them a quilt out of them.
You got so much done! I'm totally jealous.
I am so impressed! And I need a grace t-shirt:)) You look adorable.
AHHHH! I love your mani! I want a sewing machine so bad!
I love these, you are so talented!!!!
These are awesome! Man, I wish I had the patience to learn how to quilt or sew. Also, that snow!! All we got was slush in SE Texas.
Love these!!! I need to just sit down at my dang sewing machine and learn to sew already!
