As a kid, we had a blue box for recycling. I LOVED running around the house finding bottles and bits of trash that could be recycled. My mom always turned it into a challenge or race to see who could bring back the highest number or the largest thing. As an adult, in my first apartment, I had a blue box. And while I didn’t enthusiastically chase down bits of rubbish to add to the recycling bin, I did take pride in attempting make a difference. Even a very small one. That all changed when I moved to my small town in Texas. There isn’t a recycling or blue/green bin program here. Many people throw it all away together and think nothing of it. Makes me a little sad, especially when there is so much that today’s technology can do with just a little bit of trash!
As a crafty person and blogger, I love reusing and repurposing things, when I heard about what Repreve does with recycled plastic bottles, I was amazed! Did you know that they can actually make wearable fabrics out of recycled plastic bottle products? I sure didn’t. As lover of all things fabric, I’m absolutely fascinated by this!
The U.S. plastic bottle recycling rate is less than 30 percent—so less than one-third of all plastic bottles get recycled. Most people don’t think about what happens to plastic bottles after you recycle them. So Repreve is on a mission to get the word out: Just recycle more. And buy REPREVE products.
Its pretty sad that less than 30% of what could be recycled is being recycled, and I’ve been contributing to that sad figure! So here’s the deal, I’m challenging myself AND you, to recycle more. I already went and got a separate trash bin to put my bottles and tin cans in, AND I found out that there is a place here in my town that I can take it… they will take it to the recycling plant for me! Sweet!
Do you recycle? Will you join with me and make an effort to reduce your amount of trash headed to the garbage heap, and recycle more? What will you do to make recycling in your home easier? Lets #TurnItGreen together!

We recycle everything. It's awesome to live in a community where they give you a huge bin and pick up every week.
I always recycle. I get so mad when I see a bunch of plastic bottles in someones trash or a dumpster!
My town doesn't have a convenient way to recycle. It's annoying. We do recycle soda cans (my fiance's family collects them) and I'm trying to get better with paper (my fiance works at a school that recycles paper). I'm going to look into other recycling options. Thanks for the push.
While we recycle, we could probably do better.
We are HUGE recyclers in our house. The recycle bin is always more full than the trash, and usually by at least half a bin. Now, if I could only get the space and the guts to compost, we'd drastically reduce even further!
I love REPREVE! They just amaze me constantly!
We do recycle. My son often rescues things from the bathroom trash for the recycle bin, too.
We try very hard to reduce our waste by recycling or reusing.
I would buy so much Repreve stuff if I could find it! When we went shopping for blankets, it was hard to dig anything up. I wish they had a way to put a store directly on their site in cooperation with the brands who use it.
I am so bad about recycling & I know I can do better. I blame my town, though – they are terrible about picking up our recycling and sometimes they go for weeks without picking it up, so it just sits there. Then the bins get full and I end up throwing away the stuff because there is no more room to keep it in my bins.
i got my daghter a couple shirts made from recycled bottles. it's the coolest thing ever
I love companies that are eco-friendly. It's so great to learn that they are doing this.
I love that Repreve works with so many great brands! Such a cool initiative.
It's so wonderful what they are doing! I need to make more of an effort to recycle.
We're huge recyclers in our home. It just makes sense and takes little time. Repreve is a great initiative!
we do recycle. heavily. in fact, we can go 3-4 weeks without having out trash can picked up, but our recycles are full within a week. Being a blogger, i get a lot of packages. so we fill it quickly. we also try to not buy things that are packaged individually- we prefer to use fabric baggies or containers to bring things in
I'm a huge recycler! We hardly have regular trash anymore. Great job REPREVE!
We recycle everything. Our town has a pretty good program. We also try to be aware of reduce, reuse and recycle, and teach our kids that mantra from a young age.
I always recycle when I can! It makes me feel good that I'm doing my little part!
I try to recycle whenever possible, thank you for sharing this!
I really really need to recycle plastic!! There's so much of it – just wondering where Id take it all.
I love knowing all these different products use recycled materials! How awesome!
Love the idea that these products are made by recycling!
We always recycle in my house.
I'm a huge recycler!! I recycle anything and everything! I'm glad our neighborhood does recycling curbside…they even provide the recycling can.
I love the my taxes cover both trash and recycling pick up. We have a huge bin for trash and a slightly smaller bin for recycling. We put out a full recycling bin every week and put out a semi-full trash bin every month! Aside from recycling plastics, cans, paper, cardboard and things like that I love to remake clothing and do crafty things with stuff that other people might throw away.
At Christmas, we took the bags of wrapping paper home from our families' celebrations so we could recycle it instead of throwing it in the dumpster.
We had mandatory recycling in Michigan for soda bottles, etc. so I miss that now that I'm in North Carolina. I don't miss paying the deposit though, but at least it forced me to recycle.
I am an avid recycler, so much so that I need to wheeling barrels to dump mine each week! I wish I started sooner because it just feels amazing to recycle!
We don't have a recycling center close by either…so we sort of suck at recycling…we do collect cans and I do recycle all my work papers…We do shred stuff that comes into the car lot and reuse as shipping filler (sucks to be the person on the other end though..lol) I need to get better at this and figure out where a recycling center might be.
I never would have thought they can make wearable fabric from plastic. That's neat!
That's pretty cool. I never recycle but it sounds like a great site!
I reduce, reuse and recycle as much as I can. I shop at thrift stores which is one way of recycling/reusing.
Oh wow. There's no recycling program there? That's so surprising!
They are making amazing things from bottles! LOVE it!
We live in rural michigan and recycling anything except plastic or aluminum soda bottles is extremely difficult because services are not offered in a 60mil radius.
I try to recycle when I can, but I know I can do more. I love the idea of re-using items for crafts.
We try to do our best at recycling, though I'm sure we could do a lot better.
My kids are the force behind our recycling. I love that they are learning it in school and then reminding us to do it at home too.
