I’ve achieved some big goals recently. This intentional summer bucket list is all about making memories, enjoying life and slowing down!
I am working really hard to live my life more intentionally. I’ve made a lot of changes over the last few years; grown my businesses, retired my hubby, moved into a dedicated office/studio space (more on that later this week!), got a new puppy, lost 60 pounds, and so much more!
If you’ve been following along on instagram the last year or so, you might have noticed a bit of a change in what I share. I’ve done a lot of deep work on myself – dealing with past issues, traumas, and personal hang ups.
I’ve completely changed the way I look at life. How I view myself. How I speak about who I am and what I want out of this life of mine.
There’s a lot of bits and pieces and elements that have gone into this change. I’ll be sharing a lot more of that part of my journey over on my other blog (it’s pretty new guys! and I am loving this new avenue to connect and support entrepreneurs and creatives!). One thing that is definitely changed and worth sharing here is how I am planning on living my life this summer.
For the last few years, I’ve had my nose to the grindstone, doing the actual work necessary to achieve my goals – we’re talking 12 and 14 hour work days, 7 days a week. Life was passing me by, and I was missing out on a lot… but sort of ok with that because I had some big scary dreams I was working on. I’ve crossed most of the big one’s off my current list. Now I’m reevaluating what I want and how I’m going to get it.
In the mean time, I decided a few weeks ago that I was going to have an “intentional summer”.
What does an “intentional summer” mean to me?
It means slowing down, crossing a few things off of summer bucket list of sorts, and making simple choices every day that helps me live life to the fullest.
What is on my summer bucket list?
Wear more dresses.
It might seem kinda silly, but I talked about this on instagram a few weeks ago. I have a closet full of pretty dresses… and I almost never wear them! When I was working at home, it really didn’t make sense to put on a dress. I spent most of my days at the computer desk, chasing the dogs and not a whole lot else.
I decided to just wear the darn dresses, regardless of what my day was looking like, a few weeks ago! Actually I made this decision before I had even lined up my office space… now that I have the office, it’s even more appealing to me! So I’ve committed to wearing a dress at least once a week.
Spend time outside everyday.
This one comes a little more easily to me since I take the dogs out every morning. Ususally before I head to the office, and I spend more time with them outside when I get home. But I want to be more deliberate with getting outside for me, and not just for the furbabies. Even if its just 5 minutes alone to take a deep breath and just be.
Make summer memories.
I’ve got a few specific things in mind for this, but the best memories rarely come from something planned. So I am keeping an open mind, being flexible with my work schedule and saying yes to the possibilities!
The things I know I for sure want to do to make memories this summer include:
- a day at the lake.
- a real picnic (although it might have to be a breakfast picnic with as hot and humid as it is already)
- weekend away with the hubby
- host the next mastermind weekend in Dallas (read more about this here)
- Watch the sunrise
Be creative every day
In my pursuit of my goals, being creative (and by extension this blog) sort of fell to the bottom of the priorities list. For the next few months, I want to get back to doing more of the things that feed my soul, and that includes being crafty and creative.
As a part of my intentional summer, I’m committing to doing something creative every single day. Whether it’s coloring for 5 minutes, sewing something for the Knottarie or getting crafty, I will spend at least part of the day doing something that makes the creative part of my soul feel fulfilled again!
Continue with my #52coffeedateswithjennifer challenge.
It started in January, and I’ve got 16 coffee dates under my belt. So I’ve got a long way to go to meet my goal! I want to have coffee (in real life or virtually) with 52 bloggers/creative entrepreneurs/boss girls. If you’d like to schedule a chat with me, message me on instagram or comment below and we’ll connect to get something scheduled 🙂
And that, my friends, is my intentional summer bucket list! It really just boils down to being more present in my own life and slowing down a bit so I can actually enjoy the things I’ve been working so hard for!
