Establishing a few morning mindfulness habits can help improve your life and your productivity levels. It helps to keep you positive and helps you establish a routine that you can look forward to.
Creating morning habits that are mindful can help your mental and physical health!
Here are 5 easy to pick up morning mindfulness habits for a productive day you can add into your routine!
1. Make Your Favorite Drink
Are you a huge coffee person? Welcome to the #coffeeaddicts club! If not, maybe you enjoy tea or a glass of lemon water. You could even drink a glass of regular water! Taking a moment to drink your favorite drink in the morning is a wonderful morning habit to have. You can’t go wrong with taking the time to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea.
An important part of my morning routine revolves around my first cup of coffee and 10 or 15 minutes of journaling. It’s one of my favorite morning mindfulness habits!
2. Avoid Electronics
If the first thing you do in the morning is getting on an electronic, you are setting yourself up for failure. Don’t spoil your day by immediately checking text messages, status updates, emails, and alerts.
Start your morning “slow”… taking the time to enjoy yourself. Enjoy the morning. You can avoid electronics first thing in the morning to help you create morning mindful habits that make sense.
3. Get Up and Get Active
Getting up and getting active will help wake you up more fully than a cup of coffee. It can help you stay awake longer. Start your day off right with the help of a little moving around! I’ve added in yoga a few days a week and on the alternative days I hop on the treadmill or take the dogs for a sunrise walk.
Moving around also helps you get some exercise before your brain can say NO THANKS (which is the only way I’ll actually do it. Ha!). Whether you’re a marathon runner or you just do a few sets of yoga positions, this is a very important part of healthy morning rituals.
4. Eat a Great Breakfast
I’ll be the first to admit that I struggle with eating breakfast. I jump in to work, and chug coffee like it’s my job… next thing i know it’s noon! Having a full, healthy, well-rounded breakfast is shown to help improve healthy food choices throughout the rest of the day.
A good breakfast should include a source of carbohydrates, healthy fats, and protein. Don’t be shy about Including some veggies here and there during breakfasts is great. If you’re up for a fun challenge, you can even enjoy them in a green smoothie!
I’ve been more intentional about making breakfast a priority, and I’m getting a little bit better each week!
5. Plan Out Your Day
While you are probably used to having a plan, it’s important to learn how to prioritize whatever is happening in your day. One morning mindful habit to create is to choose 1 – 3 important things that you need to get done that day. Try to get them done at the beginning of your day.
When I write my to do list each morning, I break my to do list into 3 sections. Must do, need to do, and would be nice to do. I make sure that the more important, must do tasks are scheduled for the first few hours of the morning. It’s when I am the most focused, clear headed and dialed into work. Then I plan the rest of the day accordingly.
Scheduling my day this way, means I get the most out of my most productive hours and cross the most important things off my list every day!
There are tons of ways to customize your morning. Make sure you play around with what works for you. Think about your aspirations and goals and put these morning mindfulness habits to work for you!
