DIY Felt Heart Rainbow Tote

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

Making this DIY Felt Heart Rainbow Tote has just put a smile on my face this week. So easy and fun, I can’t wait to go to the library again!

When it comes to bags and totes. I am very much a girly girl. I love rainbows, unicorns and fluffy clouds. 🙂

I’ve been in need of a new book bag for library trips… what better reason and time to make one than the Quilting/Sewing Retreat I was at over the weekend?? This DIY Felt Heart Rainbow Tote only takes about an hour and half to whip up!

What You Need to Make This DIY Felt Heart Rainbow Tote

  • Outer fabric (something solid or with a very minimal print is ideal)
  • Felt in rainbow colors (I get my felt here)
  • Batting
  • Inner Fabric for lining
  • Sewing Machine, needle, thread and scissors.

I still haven’t actually written the pattern for the way I make my totes… and I forgot to take pictures during the process of this one. I PROMISE I will do it soon, in the mean time, this pattern from Craftsy will help you create your own DIY Felt Heart Rainbow Tote!

The only difference would be that I add a layer of batting for stability and you’ll need to add your felt hearts in rainbow colors to the front.

To get the hearts all the same size, I cut a template out of scrap paper, and then traced it onto all of the different colors of felt I wanted to use.

Then I cut each of them out with sharp scissors. It took a couple tries to get the order the way I wanted, once I had them in the right position/order, I pinned them in place and secured them with a line of straight stitching.

Other than the hearts, the tote pattern is basically the same as the video. Easy peasy!

Once I get my personal tote pattern written I’ll update this post!

I love this DIY Felt Heart Rainbow Tote! Its practical and perfect for so many things! Currently I’m using it as a project bag and have my latest hoop art project and thread inside. It would also make a fabulous book bag or even a grocery or market bag!

Ooh, love the colors! I don’t know how to sew so I’d just have to get a blank tote bag and go from there! 😉

I love felt, it is so versatile for many craft projects. Your design is lovely and you could easily use a pre made bag and get the children to help with the decoration. #creativemondays
