Coffee and a Good Book

Ever notice how just when you start to feel like you’re finally getting a little bit ahead, Life throws you some curves? Yeah. Me too. Pretty much the story of my life. Things haven’t exactly been easy around here lately. Hubby hasn’t worked in 2 weeks, and we’re not sure when his new job will be starting. We’re still waiting to hear from the company… The anxiety has been building up for both of us. We’ve been pinching pennies, figuring out how we’re going to pay bills, and what things we can sell if it comes down to it. Not Fun!

I need a break, desperately.

I’m the one that has to say everything is going to be ok, that we’ll make it through fine, that it’s not “a big deal”… I’m running out of optimism.

So I go check the mail, hoping for more than just bills. And there was!

My dear friend Taylor mailed me a book she had read and reviewed (read more here), just because I commented on her post saying I wanted to borrow it! Gosh I love that girl! Hubby had taken off to do some running around and wouldn’t be back for a while, so I made myself some lunch, a cup of yummy coffee and curled up with “Austenland” by Shannon Hale.

Lose yourself in coffee and a good book. - busybeingjennifer.com

Its been a very long time since I’ve gotten so wrapped up in a book that I lost track of time. Its been even longer since I finished an entire book in a single day. I didn’t stop reading until the husband man showed up. Then after the #NewThingsComingSale on instagram, I left him watching TV, crawled into bed and read the rest, finishing around 1 am. I read the entire 200 page book in less than 12 hours.

Austenland had me hooked in the first 2 pages. Its the kind of book that magically weaves its way into your mind. I was there with Jane (the main character) in England, giggling along with her at the silliness of the Regency-Era clothing & customs and sighing over the hunkiness of “Theodore” the gardener.  I’m an “old soul” romantic type and this book was right up my alley and exactly the temporary escape I needed.

I almost feel like a new person today. My little “mental vacation” did wonders for my soul! Sometimes you just need to lose yourself in some coffee and a good book…

When was the last time you got lost in a book?

I try and get lost in a book every night. 😉 I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!! Prayers for you and hubby!! God never gives us more than we can handle (even though it may feel like it!!! And even though that's easier said than done!)

Amen! I loved Austenland, and am so glad that you did, too! By the by, you might want to check out United Way's website, and local food banks and soup kitchens (after 9 months of unemployment, I had to get creative in ways that I saved money for the bills- personally, selling didn't work for me, but cutting food costs did). Check with your local unemployment office, as well- some utility companies will give you a break for a month or two, and almost all credit card companies now have an option to defer 1 month of payment without a penalty.
Good luck….and it WILL be ok! (just keep reading)
