College before I turn 40?

So I’ve decided to do another blank “before” blank list. But I can’t decide if I want to do “40 before 40” or “35 before 35″…  Either way I do know that taking some college courses and possibly getting a degree is in my future. Did you know that other than a year long internship, I never went to college or university after High School? Gasp! Thats so unheard of these days! But I seem to be doing ok for myself 😉

One thing I do know, is college isn’t cheap! And neither are the course books. When I do go back I will definitely be looking into book rental options like Campus Book Rentals. It just makes sense! Why would I spend thousands on books when I can rent them for far less!

Some of the perks of renting include…

-save 40-90% off of bookstore prices
-free shipping both ways
-can highlight in the textbooks
-flexible renting periods
-we donate to Operation Smile with each textbook rented (Love that they give back to such a great cause!)

So now that you’re on board with saving money while getting your education, you’re probably wondering how it works! This video explains it all…

So now that I’ve got college on the list, I just need to figure out another 34-39 things for my “before” list. Did you go to college? What types of things would you add to your “before” list?

I started college in my 30's with 2 young sons. I am always sorry I was never able to finish with a degree. Maybe I should add it back into my "before I reach 60" list (which really isn't that far away alas, LOL)? Saving money on books would be a huge help that is for sure!

What a good goal! I'll be finishing my nursing degree in December and I CAN'T wait! I promise you, all the hard work will be 100% worth it 🙂 And when you do go back, totally rent your books– especially for your gen-ed classes! While my friends were paying $800+ at the book store, I was paying $200-$300 by renting and buying used on Amazon. It saved A TON!

This is pretty genius really! I'm gonna let my sister know about it and see if she can't use it!

I went to college for a semester and like 2 weeks before dropping out. I just wasn't ready for it which is so sad because I had a full ride (plus extra money that I was able to pocket).

I so wish this option was available when I was in college! And it took me 7 years to finish my degree (and no I'm not a doctor haha!) so you're never too old and don't give up!

I have a 25 before 25 list, and although I've been great with some of the goals, I've been terrible with others – but I still do love making the lists, because they remind me. Good for you making the list. I say you do a 35 before 35, though I don't know how much time that gives ya, but that way you have something to work on now!

I wish I had known about Campus Book Rentals when I was a college student so that I could have used this for books – I hate how expensive it is to buy books from the bookstore at my college! I will have to pass this on to family members that are still in school!

This is such a good idea. When I was in college years ago I always bought my books from the bookstore. I'd spend at least 250-400 dollars a semester just for books!

Good for you taking college courses! My husband keeps telling me I need to look into finishing my degree when my daughter goes back to school but I'm not sure I have the same goals anymore…

Well this is just genius! It always made me so sick to my stomach having to shell out so much for college books! Especially for those classes I HAD to take but didn't really have much interest in.

By the way, I like "40 before 40" better – it's catchier and easier to say than "35 before 35". Also, I just turned 35 2 months ago so I couldn't really tag along with you on that one 😉

I have a life list, or 'bucket list' but I really like the deadline a 40-before-40 gives you. It's way too easy to just say oh, someday…and then, what do you know? Someday never comes.

Things on my list are: learn to speak Italian, visit Italy, publish a book, learn to play the fiddle. I think those are all totally doable for me in the next 5 years. I will have to think real hard to come up with another 36 things!!
