Not everyone is comfortable with a standardized form of exercise, like swimming or running. For some, endurance training is tiresome at the end of an intensive working week (and trying to take care of their family), for others, mobility issues or other limitations could prevent them from doing all they can.
Some people just aren’t interested in working out or exercising that much, because they already live a pretty busy lifestyle. Does that make them less worthy, or does it mean finding an alternate approach could be key?
Of course, only you can answer this question, and it’s important to do so to give yourself a path forward. Exercise and training can help your mood regulation, can prevent many diseases or lower your chances of sustaining them, and can help with keeping a healthy waistline, especially as you get older.
But if regular exercise feels like it hasn’t been working for you, then what next? Where should you go? In this post, we’ll discuss some advice to help with that:
Social Hobbies & Clubs
You’d be surprised just how much exercise you can get in a social setting, even without intending to. Anyone who has been around their city center for an all-day shopping trip likely knows how miles can be covered without you even realizing it. That said, you may also find benefits in joining clubs that keep you active, without you intending to.
A photography club could have you walking across natural landscapes, or even a dog walking club in your neighborhood can help you stretch your legs. Yoga, while relaxing, can also be quite the workout. This way, you can take out the tiresome sacrificial effort of exercise, and have fun instead.
Video Games
We’re far from the days when video games were a shut-in hobby for those who sit on the sofa days at a time. From Virtual Reality titles like Beat Sabre, to Wii Fit, to dancing games like Just Dance, purchasing a console (it doesn’t have to be a brand new model) can give you the chance to have fun in your home, without worrying about your privacy, and to have fun through and through. In some cases, they might even help you structure a workout plan like Wii Fit, but because it’s so accessible, you won’t worry about that commitment at all.
Fun Alternates
Depending on your lifestyle, there may be some worthwhile alternatives for you. For example, blood flow restriction (BFR) training can help you get more out of less physical activity, or may help you train in a safe manner if you have mobility issues or are getting older.
Gardening is a great deal of fun, but also hard work, and those who tend to enjoy it find themselves in better shape for the effort. Perhaps you’re just tired of rising fuel costs, and so take part in your cycle-to-work scheme offered by your employer. If you can do that, then the fun alternatives can give you breathing room, and incorporate exercise into your daily life.
With this advice, you’re sure to find a cool alternative even if regular exercise hasn’t been working for you.
