15 Dallas Staycation Ideas

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

Lets face it, family vacations can be expensive! Nowadays staycations are becoming more and more popular. And why not? Airfare prices are skyrocketing and the cost of a full tank of gas can still give you a panic attack. Smart vacationers choose to stay closer to home to enjoy their vacation time. A staycation can be as simple or as complex as you like, from staying home all day, to spending only a few hours at a museum, or staying at a boutique hotel for the weekend.

If you live in Texas, you’ll appreciate this list! I’ve collected 15 awesome Dallas Staycation Ideas!

15 Dallas Staycation Ideas from BusyBeingJennifer.com

1. Great Wolf Lodge.
The adults can sip cocktails and wind down, while the kids swim, try the ropes course, visit the XD theater, and indoor water park.
2. Picnic in the park.
Pack up a picnic basket full of nutritious food, snacks, and drinks, and head to the local park. Don’t forget a blanket and a frisbee.
3. Movie marathon.
Spend a weekend catching up on the latest movies. Sort through your CDs, watch Netflix, or clear out your PVR.
4. Six Flags over Texas
There’s fun for the whole family at this amusement park, and plenty of extreme rides to make adults feel like kids again. It’s a whole day of fun.
5. Head to the planetarium.
Have a solar system refresher, and watch the latest space films.
6. Spend a day in bed.
You don’t need to be sick to have a day of rest. Eat breakfast in bed, and watch television all day, or read a book. Cuddle with the cat.
7. Have a pet day.
Spend all day with your pet. Go for a long dog walk. Give them a bath, and brush them. Wash all their bedding. Dig out their toys and play with them.
8. The Perot Museum of Science.
Even adults can nerd out at the Museum. They also have special sleepover nights, so you can bring the kids, and have a midnight snack while watching a 3D movie.
9. Make a date with friends.
Now is a great chance to get together with friends you haven’t seen for a while. Choose a restaurant where you can linger over drinks, and that isn’t too noisy, so you have plenty of chat opportunity.
10. Go to the mall.
Most of the time we go to a mall to get our errands done, but not too often do we have the opportunity to check out a new shop, or actually take our time looking through merchandise.
11. Archery lessons.
Sign up for archery lessons and learn a new skill.
12. Dinosaur Valley State Park.
Check out the past by taking the entire family to see dinosaur fossils and tracks. They even have campsite rentals.
13. Catch up on your crafts.
If you’re anything like me, you probably have a Pinterest Boards full of DIY’s and Crafts you want to attempt at some time… well now is the time! Or better yet, if you have any unfinished projects, now is the perfect time to get them done.
14. Be a chef.
Dust off your cookbooks and try all those time-consuming recipes that you’ve been meaning to make for a long time now.
15. Hurricane Harbor.
If you’re feeling a bit too hot while on your Dallas staycation, Hurricane Harbor is a great way to cool down in the water.
