101 Handmade Days: Simple Sling Bag

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

Sometimes I have an idea… and instead of trying to figure it all out on my own, I’ll head over to Pinterest and see if I can find something along the lines of what I’m looking for. This simple sling bag is just such a project.

Its actually a combination of 2 posts and a little bit of a size adjustment. I like my bags BIG… you know since I never leave my house without at least 3 zippy pouches, wallet, pencil case, a note book, my planner and a bunch of other stuff… a big bag is a necessity!

I took the concept for the knotted handle from this Boho Sling Bag Tutorial by Destashification and the shape & instructions from this Sling Bag Tutorial from Morning by Morning Productions.

I made this simple sling bag my own by changing the size and adding a floral fabric heart on the front.

If you’d like to make a bag like this, you’ll need the supply list and directions from Morning by Morning Productions. The only difference is you’ll need more fabric… I used a yard for each of the outer and lining fabrics. My bag is also longer/taller and a little wider.

Overall length – 38 inches
Width – 20 inches (center / bag portion)

I basically followed all the directions exactly, including the interior pocket, I just made it bigger! And instead of connecting the handles, I stitched them all they way closed and tied them in a knot. I also used a little heat’n’bond to apply the floral fabric heart on the front and then top stitched it in place. <3

Isn’t my simple sling bag pretty??? And its the PERFECT size for all the various bits and bobs that have to leave the house with me…

The perfect, HUGE simple sling bag 🙂 Get the details here! #101handmadedays
