I’m more than just a little obsessed with gnomes, and with the 14th rapidly approaching, pink and red and hearts are taking over my office decor! I just had to add a valentine’s sock gnome to the mix for some extra cuteness!
My gnome obsession started with a fall themed gnome, then came my Christmas gnomes now those adorable little forest characters have made it into all the holiday decor in my home!
I wanted to try my hand at making my own and thought Valentine’s would be a great place to dive into other occasions and holidays.
At Dollar Tree, I was able to grab nearly everything I needed — fuzzy socks, crew socks, rice, and pompoms. I only needed to dig into my craft stash for some fur which I already had on hand but if you don’t you can grab a wide variety at a craft store like Hobby Lobby or even Walmart.
You can easily make your valentine’s sock gnome any color you’d like, but I wanted a really noticeable pop of pink to make it obviously valentine’s themed so even his beard got the pink treatment!
How to make your own Valentine’s Sock Gnome:
You will need:
- Crew length sock
- Fuzzy socks
- Plain uncooked rice
- Craft fur
- Red felt
- Tan pompom or wooden bead
Directions to make your gnome:
Fill a glass or jar with about 2 cups of rice. Open the top of your sock and slip it over the cup, flip it up and pour rice into the sock.
Add some fabric scraps or cotton batting to fill it a little more if you like and then tie off the top of the sock. Cutaway excess above the knot.
Flip over your craft fur and use a box cutter type knife to cut the back of the fabric into a triangle, be sure not to cut all the way through to the fur, just the backing so that it has a nice natural look to the fur.
Hot glue your triangle of fur into place just under the knot.
Pull the fuzzy sock over the top and all the way down in the back to cover up his “bottom” and just slightly overlapping the beard in front.
Tuck the tan pompom under the hat just slightly and glue into place while you glue the hat down all the way around to secure.
With scissors cut the toe off the sock and tie it off with about 2-3” of excess. Cut down into strips to where it’s tied it off to create a fringed top.
Finish off your cute little cupid gnome but cutting a red heart from felt and gluing onto the hat.
Pair your Valentine’s Sock Gnome with the Valentine’s Book Stack to create a sweet holiday vignette.
Isn’t this sweet little valentine’s sock gnome the cutest? He looks so cute on my decorated shelves!
