Transform Old Christmas Cards into Valentines

When I put away Christmas decorations, it always makes me sad to throw away all the pretty Christmas cards that people send us. It seems such a waste to just get rid of them, but I can’t store every Christmas card that we ever get.

This year, I decided to see if I could turn them into Valentine’s Day cards. I was quite pleased with how they turned out! If you also want to transform old Christmas cards into valentines, here is how I did it:

Supplies:

• Old Christmas cards (not the photo cards)
• Scissors
• Cardstock paper
• Assorted embellishments
• Glue stick

Step 1

Cut the cardstock paper into a card shape around 3×5 inches long (or whatever you like) I chose to use a single piece of paper. The “to” and “from” info can go on the back. If you want to have a folding card, just double the length and fold the card in half.

Step 2

Cut out your favorite designs from the Christmas cards. We had cards with doves, mints, deer, a flower, and a snow scene. There were a few more cards, but they read more “Christmas” which made them hard to convert.

Step 3

Think of words to go with your images. I chose puns, because I love pun Valentine’s Day cards. Our phrases were:

• “I would “dove” you to be my Valentine”
• “We were mint to be together”
• “There is “snow” Valentine’s Day without you”
• “You are the flower of my eye”
• “Be a deer and be my valentine?” (you could also say, “I would deer-ly love you to be my valentine”)

Step 4

Glue the images to your cards and write in the words. I used both markers and colored pencils. But you can use whatever you have on hand. These are so simple to make; it doesn’t matter how you do it!

Step 5

Gloat over how adorable you are making handmade valentines. Give them to friends, your SO, or family members. When I worked in an office, I liked to give silly valentines to my co-workers.
