Well Vacation is over… I’m trying desperately to get back into the swing of things and get the house back under control… might take me the rest of the week though! Hubby was off as of Sunday morning, and until he got home, I really had no idea what the week was going to hold! We’d talked about buying a boat and going camping, renovating the living room, going to the coast for a few days, and just doing nothing. So here is our vacation – the short version that is 😉
Sunday started with having to fix the driver’s side window in the truck. Thank the good Lord above that I have a handy husband who knew what to do! If it was up to me, I would have just started opening the door to order my coffee at the drive thru.
After discussing our options and what would be the best plan, we decided to go ahead and work on the living room. Of course that meant s trip to my man’s version of toyland 🙂
Ahhhh Lowes. How you entice us to spend more money than we should on gadgets we might only use once or twice. *sigh* Bust seriously… we got paint, a kick butt paint sprayer and all the other tools we’d need to turn the ugly, nasty, mud colored living room walls into something pretty 🙂
We then proceeded to tear apart the living room and slowly put it back together again. We thought this project would take 2 maybe 3 days… Keep dreaming Jennifer! With some weather delays and some other (ahem!) laziness issues the whole living room ended up taking us 6 days! 6 long, slow, exhausting days. How come no one ever talks about the icky part of renovations? Seriously. There was bickering, paint in my hair, ears, and nose, a nosy MIL that drove me INSANE, and a destroyed house to deal with.
You can definitely test the strength of your relationship and communication skills by starting a renovation project. I’d like to say we passed with flying colors… but we had our moments of drama and maybe a few tears. Just keeping it real here people 🙂 Oh and I’ve decided that the best pre-marital test/counselling opportunity is doing a reno project together. Seriously, you’d learn so much about someone when the pressure is on. Hubs and I have been together 1.5 years and I am STILL learning things about him.
Of course since our kitchen (and pretty much the whole house) was out of commission due to displaced furniture and other random things, we ate out, A LOT. In fact I don’t want to eat out again for at least a month… maybe longer. Now some of the food was incredible, and I of course had to share it with you (are you drooling?). That Chicken Alfredo was seriously the best I’ve ever eaten in my life. Hubs and I rediscovered a local Italian restaurant, totally my new favorite place, and if you come visit me, that’s where we’re going for lunch 🙂 Now sometimes I girl just needs a good, old-fashioned steak and potatoes meal. Chilli’s helped me out with that. Again, delicious. If you’re gonna eat, you might as well eat something yummy.
During the week Husband Dearest, was on the hunt for a boat. He’s been talking about wanting one for a while now. He had the go ahead, and we looked at least 4 this past week. He didn’t like any of them. One thing I learned about my husband this week, the man is a perfectionist! Course when you’re spending a good chunk of money on something you’ve been dreaming about, I suppose you’re allowed to be a little picky. The only up side to the great boat hunt, was that I got to see bits of Texas that I hadn’t visited before! The above picture is one I took from the truck when we were in Weatherford looking at yet another boat. I kind of fell in love with the court house. I think its pretty awesome 🙂 Hubs thinks I’m nuts for taking pictures of everything. All in all the boat “shopping” was a nice break from the intensity of the living room renovations.
It was saturday before we really got to relax and unwind. Putting my feet up never felt so good. It was so nice to just sit and enjoy the new living room space 🙂
Hubs had to go back to work yesterday (poor man) and I am trying to reclaim the house still… there are bits of displaced randomness still remaining in almost every room. At least I am caught back up on the dishes now 🙂
And that my friends, is the short version of our vacation. Next time, we’re getting the heck out of town and actually going to do something relaxing! I’ll be sharing the finished living room at some point this week. 🙂
Happy Monday!

Finding the hard wood floors underneath is AWESOME! Totally changed the whole look .
One thing I also love are the small town courthouses. Some are so pretty. Weatheford is a great one!
Congrats on the new changes in your home.
