Neon Polk-a-Dot Manicure

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

I’m not usually much of a girly-girl. But every once in a while I go through a paint-my-nails-daily-and-try-all-the-pinterest-mani-tutorials phase. This week has been one of those phase weeks. I’ve been playing with different colors and trying to get out of my solid color (aka Boring nails) comfort zone. I’m no Ange from hairspray and high heels, so don’t expect to see mani tutorials all that often. I did have fun with this neon polk-a-dot manicure though and thought I’d share 🙂

I can’t remember where I saw the idea for using a metallic sharpie on your manicure… probably somewhere on pinterest… but its awesome!

Paint your nails the color of your choice,  like you normally would. Let dry completely. Using the sharpie add polk-a-dots. I went with just an accent nail, but it would be totally cute if you polk-a-dotted all your nails. Let the sharpie dry and then add your top coat. I moved a little too quickly at this point and my sharpie polk-a-dots smeared a little 🙁

When it comes to painting my own nails, I can be a little sloppy… I could definitely use more practice. But another tip I read somewhere (again probably somewhere on pinterest) was using Vaseline on the edge of your cuticles to keep the nail polish from sticking to your skin. Who ever came up with that ideas is brilliant! Before I paint my nails, I use a small, straight-edged paint brush to “paint” the Vaseline on my cuticles and the skin surrounding my nails. Once your nails are dry, wash gently with soap and water and all that extra nail polish just wipes off! So much better than trying to clean it off with nail polish remover and a q-tip. I’ve ruined more than one manicure when the q-tip slipped and gunked up a perfectly painted nail. *insert many curse words there*

I’ve already changed up my nails… again. I wasn’t kidding when I said I went through a paint-my-nails-daily-and-try-all-the-pinterest-mani-tutorials phase. I’m off to look for another pinterest inspired mani I have the skills to try… follow me on instagram if you’re curious to see 🙂

Do you have an manicure tips? Whats your favorite way to spice up your “nail life”?

Yeah, I go through those phases, too! :O) Last week I had red nails with white crosses on them. That's basically the Swiss flag (my mother was born in Switzerland). August 1st is the Swiss National Holiday and I was feeling patriotic. *LOL* This week I have alternated fire-engine red with blue tips and gun-metal blue nails with red tips. Same two colors, but on the tips the red looks almost a cranberry color.

Wow! Vaseline is a great tip. I am going to try this. I also love that you are using a shapie!! Favorite post of the week. Thanks for sharing! Have you ever used Essie nail polish? It's my fave. I did a review here —-> http://www.acutelifestyle.blogspot.com/2013/07/no…

Cute!!! I've actually never tried to do polka dots before and I even have a dotting tool, I like that you made it an accent nail
