My Favorite Christmas Song (Part 1)

Thisย post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosureย here.

I have a confession, just a little one… I’ve had Christmas music playing off and on since September. I blame it on my 15 plus years participating in Christmas Musicals and Choirs. Bet you didn’t know that about me huh? Yep. I love musicals and most years the practices started right after labor day. So its basically a long standing tradition to start listening to Christmas music in the early fall ๐Ÿ™‚ It was definitely my favorite time of year, and I have some awesome memories from those practices and performances! Of course, by Christmas time, we were all a little sick of Christmas songs, but hey, it happens ๐Ÿ˜‰

While I have a deep love and appreciation for the Classics of Christmas music (more on that next week), I also love sinking my teeth into some of the new, contemporary songs. Songs like “Mary Did You Know” and “When Love Came Down”. For the past couple of years, my absolute favorite song is “Hallelujah(Light Has Come)” by the Barlow Girls.

There is something so hauntingly moving in the combination of melody and harmony. And then there are the words…

Hallelujah, Light Has Come - Lyrics from BusyBeingJennifer.com's favorite contemporary Christmas Song

The lyrics of this song some up the whole theme behind Christmas, the reason we’re supposed to celebrate. He IS the promise to those who believe!

What is your favorite contemporary Christmas song?

I love this song thanks for sharing! I had not heard it before! One of my favorite contemporary Christmas songs is Barenaked Ladies "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings" Feat. Sarah McLachlan! I can listen to it over and over!

In the last year or show I have really gotten into the Christmas Cd by Scotty Mccreery. I just love his deep voice on some of the classics.

I love this post! Such a great song. I think one of my favorite contemporary Christmas songs is "Strange Way to Save the World". I'm not sure who sang it originally but Rascal Flatts did an awesome version on CMA Country Christmas last night!! Merry Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚

I love it! I'm not a big fan of Christmas music, but this one and my personal favorite, O Holy Night, make it meaningful. Thanks for sharing!

Haha! Yes, I couldn't get the songs from Guys & Dolls out of my head until October! Musicals are so much fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

As a non-Christian, I prefer the non-denominational songs for the holiday, and I have a soft spot for the big band Buddy Holly-style ones. As far as I know, no one has made a popular Yule song or tune about the solstice. ๐Ÿ™
But The Drifters "White Christmas" is my particular favorite this year!
