I got the text! My sister’s water broke!! Baby Squish is going to be here very, very soon! It’s hard to believe that my sister is going to be a Mom! Emily is one of my closest friends… we’re 8 years apart, and somehow managed to forge an unbreakable bond… even the 2000+ miles between us hasn’t changed it!
Thanks goodness we live in an age where technology makes long distances easier to manage! Skype dates, phone calls, and texts have been flying across the miles ever since I got to Texas! Of course that doesn’t make being in stuck in here while she gives birth much easier, but she understands 🙂
One thing that does help though is an app I came across recently called OkHello! The best thing about this app? It works with or without wifi and that means that I’ll be able to video chat with my sister and soon to arrive niece as soon as they are up to it!
We’ve already been chatting via OkHello on a regular basis and it combines photo sharing, instant messaging and video chatting all in one place! The transition from messaging into video chatting and back again is pretty much effortless… and if you know anything about me and technology… effortless is very, very good!
We spend a lot of time making faces at each other, telling funny stories, and talking about the baby 🙂 Good grief I am in love with that kid and she hasn’t even made her official arrival yet! Well as of this moment anyways… Soon though! And yes I’ll update when she’s here and has a real name 🙂
My hubby and I also use this app a lot. With him on the road and gone 5 days a week, I get pretty lonesome. Because OkHello doesn’t rely on wifi for video chatting I can see him even when he;s hundred of miles away and stopped nowhere near wifi! And the quality of the signal is pretty great too! Hubs has no patience for things that don’t work or work well… He’s kind of like me when it comes to technology. We just want it to work, and work right! lol
Holy Moley! If Squish is almost here I should probably get to work finishing her quilt! Off I go to check my phone every 3 seconds and get some sewing done! Have a great weekend!
** Update** Baby girl arrived safely at 11:52 on Friday June, 28th! She is gorgeous! Both Mom and baby are doing well 🙂
Congradulations.It is very rewarding experience
Congratulations! So exciting!!!!
Congrats, Jennifer!! How exciting!!!! 🙂
That app looks awesome by the way!
Congrats on becoming an aunt, it's one of the most fun things!!
Congrats! I just have to tell you, I have a daughter named Jennifer and a daughter named Emily. They are six years apart. If you tell me you have another sister named Allison, that would be really coincidental, because that is my third daughter's name. BTW, whenever I am here on your blog, you remind me so much of my Jennifer and I've thought that from the first time I saw you. 🙂
I don't have a sister named Allison, but I do have one named Sherri and another named Meagan 🙂 And thanks 🙂
Congrats! I just became an aunt this year too, so I can imagine how excited you are!
Aw, congrats!! That makes all the difference in the world to be able to be there via video…. technology has come along way. Very cool!!!
I remember the first time I became an aunt!
How fun! Group video chat? I'll have to give this a try – thanks for sharing Jennifer!
