2019 is the year of being the best woman (or man) that you know you can be. It’s not official, we just decided that it is right now. But it still stands: you’re going to smash it in 2019, and we’ve put together some tips to make sure that you do. So forget your New Year’s resolutions, because you won’t be needing them this January. The only resolution is to be the best you possible, and we’re going to help you to pull it off in 2019, 2020, 2021… well, from here on out. Ready?
2019 is the year of self-love
Next year, we’re going to take loving ourselves to the next level. Just imagine how you’d feel if the negative comments that you thought about yourself were coming out of the mouth of your closest friend. You’d delete their number off your phone, and move on with your life, right? So why not be your own best friend, and act like it. Love yourself, there’s only one you, and you’re the best. Positive thoughts only, girl.
Self-love will change the world around you
It sounds like a cliche, we know. But they do always say: you can’t love anyone else until you love yourself. When you change your mental attitude and start to value and love yourself a little more, it will have a rippling effect and change your entire environment. It’s hard, and it can be a slow process. But those little changes will affect everything, and you’ll notice it straight away. Man, there’s so much love around here, we can hardly see…
Focus on bettering yourself
You deserve to spend your time on you, and what you want in life. Before the New Year comes around, make a list of the things that you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t done yet. Maybe you wanted to study, but never did? Don’t let other commitments hold you back, as you can study in a variety of ways. You could study online at Aston University, or any other college offering online courses. What have you got to lose?
Get creative, and find your talent
Most of the time, when people ask you ‘can you paint?’ or ‘can you write?’ we say no, without having even tried our hand at being a bit more creative. How do you know if you can do those things or not, if you haven’t spent a little bit of time trying them out? Dedicate an hour a day (or every two days if you’re super busy) to trying out something new and creative. You’ll soon see what you really can do.
See the beauty in small things
Stopping for a second, and seeing the beauty around you, can really change your life in a multitude of ways. It may seem that you see the same old woods, or that beach that you’re used to, when you drive to work every day, and what’s so special about that old thing? Just because you’re used to something, doesn’t mean that it stops being a gift. Appreciate it! There is beauty where you least expect it.
Hold yourself to a high standard
Loving yourself is important, but sometimes a little bit of tough love doesn’t go a miss. If you want something, go out there and get it, and make sure that you don’t let yourself take your eye off the ball. Only you can do this, so stay focused on what it is that you want, and don’t keep letting yourself off if you’re slacking. The results will come to you if you’re strict with yourself, but don’t overdo it. Just do all that you can.
Look for the positives
There are situations in life when you really think, ‘there are just no positives here’. And we get that, especially when it seems as though everything you’ve worked for is just not quite going to plan. But there are always positives in every situation, even if the only positive is that you gave your all. And that is something to be proud of, whatever the outcome is, so don’t let the negatives take control.
Spend time with your nearest and dearest
Ok, you may be thinking, ‘this year is supposed to be about me?’ and sure, it is. But the reason that you’re working so hard is probably because you want to enjoy things with your family, and give them the best things that you possibly can. We hear this all of the time, but don’t make the mistake of not giving your family the only thing that they really want: you. Money can’t buy that, but you’ll all remember the time you spent together forever.
Spend time alone, too
Oops, conflicting life advice alert. Whilst our point still stands when it comes to being with your family as much as you can, you need to spend some time alone, too. Ultimately, you’re the one who has to spend the most time with yourself, so why not make sure that you know yourself inside out? Take yourself to a bookshop, for coffee, and even for dinner. Knowing yourself and what you like is key to being happy.
Do something every once in a while that scares you
In day-to-day life, we can get caught up in the mundane, and forget what life is really about. Doing something every once in a while that scares you and pushes you out of your comfort zone, such as, you know, skydiving. It doesn’t have to be this extreme, if you don’t fancy jumping out of a plane. If you’re scared of asking where the toilet roll is at Walmart you can do that, too. We’ll still be proud.
So, there we have it. The ultimate (well, almost) guide for 2019, to help you to be the best person that you can possibly be. The New Year doesn’t have to be about losing a few pounds, or eating less chocolate, or not sleeping until 12pm on Sundays. It just has to be about being the best you that you can be, and you’ll smash it.
