These Hand Lettered Mini Notebooks are the perfect little DIY gift to keep on hand for when a friend or family member needs a little pick me up!
Plus, they’re perfect for carrying with you to the store with your grocery list or just having in your purse if you like to take notes. The thing is, they’re just adorable and fun.
And handmade. Love handmade. LOL!
I am a BIG fan of handmade gift giving. I am also a big fan of sending little gifts to friends and family. There is just something almost magical about getting a little surprise package in the mail.
I love creating fun and unique things when I have the time, then I keep them on hand to add to a gift basket or pop in the mail.
These little Hand Lettered Mini Notebooks are a quick and easy project, and only require a few supplies!
Hand Lettered Mini Notebooks Supplies:
- Mini Notebooks
- Chalkboard paint
- Gold Leaf Pen
- Paint Brush
- Printer (optional)
- Chalk (optional)
Step #1.
Slap a little chalkboard paint on the cover of the notebooks. I wanted a brushstroke effect, and dragged an almost dry brush along the edges. And added more paint to my brush for center section so that the lettering would stand out.
Let the notebooks dry completely.
Step #2. (Optional)
Using your favorite lettering font, create a template for the “hand lettering”. I used my favorite font and picmonkey. Print these off in the size you need. Color the back of the page with white chalk.
Then place the paper over the notebook and trace the lettering with a pen, pressing firmly.
This will transfer a chalk outline to your notebook cover.
Step #3.
Using your gold leaf pen, add your lettered phrase.
I did phrases like “take note”, “ideas”, “notewothy”, “shit to do”, etc. If you used step 2 to create a chalk template, use the gold leaf pen to fill it in and create the hand lettering effect.
Allow to dry completely.
So easy right?? I told ya!
And they’re such a great little gift-able to keep on hand! The options for what you letter on these is pretty much endless! Personalize with a name or try drawing a logo! The beauty of these is you can get as creative as you want 🙂

I totally agree with you that handmade gifts are the best. A few years ago, I made some bookmarks for my mom and gave them to her along with a Barnes & Noble gift certificate. She said, “It’s always so nice to receive a handmade gift because you know the person was thinking about you while they were making it”. So true — I had never thought of it that way. I love these little notebooks! Thanks for the tip about using the chalk to transfer the lettering to the chalkboard paint. Also — thanks for the tip about using the chalkboard paint. I never would have thought of that.
