When the weather gets rainy and dull, there is nothing better than making your own pom-poms! With just a few supplies from around the house you can make these sweet DIY pom pom coasters. They’re perfect for gifting or keeping as decoration in homes – grandma will love them at her next tea party while teachers might prefer not having their coffee get wet because of an spilled drink on someone else’s set table.
This easy kids craft is pretty simple, and is a perfect rainy day activity for older kids (responsible enough to safely use a hot glue gun). Chances are you’ve got the needed supplies hanging around from other craft projects you’ve let the kids create in the past.
With just a few basic craft supplies, you can make some quick and easy crafts to keep or give as gifts!
What do you need to make these Pom Pom Coasters?
- Colorful craft pompoms
- Craft foam sheet
- Pencil
- X-acto knife
- Hot glue gun
Here is how you make Pom Pom Coasters
On a piece of craft foam sheet draw a square using a pencil – you can measure your square using a ruler or find an object that is the right size and trace around it. Make sure that the craft foam sheet is on a level cutting surface.
Use an x-acto knife to cut out the traced foam sheet. Be careful in this step.
*Pro Tip* place a piece of cardboard behind the craft foam sheet so that you can easily cut through with the x-acto knife with out damaging the surface below.
Prepare the hot glue gun and grab all the colorful pompoms you have in your collection! I like playing with the pom poms and deciding ahead of time what pattern or layout I want to use, and then set the pom poms aside in the correct order.
Start attaching the pompoms on the foam sheet in whatever order you decided or however you’re feeling inspired to do so. I recommend starting from one side and make your way across the foam board.
Simply apply a drop of hot glue on the sheet and place a pompom on the glue. Press the pompom right away before the glue dries/cools.
Continue to add pompoms to the foam sheet until the whole sheet is filled with pompoms. Try keeping the pompoms adjacent to each other, covering the whole foam board, making sure that there isn’t any foam board showing between the pom poms.
Also, keep in mind to keep a nice color combination while attaching the pompoms and keep any pompom line aligned with its adjacent pompom lines.
Once the square foam sheet is filled the coaster will be ready to be used!
These are such a fun, colorful, and bright easy kids craft idea!
Let the kids go nuts, making as many as they’d like or until the pom poms run out and you’ll have a fun little stash of giftable coasters for whenever you need something to give to a friend or loved one to brighten their day!
