5 Reasons to LOVE Cherries!

Mmmmm Cherries! One of my favorite things about spring is the delicious crop of spring cherries! They’re just so darn delicious! But not only are cherries yummy, they’re good for you too! There are so many reasons to love cherries, but today I am sharing my top five reasons to love cherries!

5 Reasons to Love Cherries - BusyBeingJennifer.com

#1 Cherries are FULL of Antioxidants. Cherries contain powerful antioxidants like anthocyanins and cyanidin. Sweet cherries also contain a small amount of quercetin, which is among the most potent in terms of antioxidant activity and a wide range of other health-promoting properties.

#2 Cherries Support Natural Healthy Sleep. Cherries contain natural melatonin, which plays a vital role in sleep and bodily regeneration. Based on daily environmental signals of light and darkness, your pineal gland has evolved to produce and secrete melatonin to help you sleep. Research suggests that consuming tart cherry juice not only help increase your melatonin levels but may also improve time in bed, total sleep time and sleep efficiency.

#3 Cherries Can Help Ward off Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association includes cherries as one of the memory boosting foods because they are so rich in antioxidants.

#4 Cherries are Good for your Heart. Cherries are very high in potassium, which helps regulate heart rate and blood pressure, while reducing the risk of hypertension. The phytosterols in cherries also help reduce bad cholesterol levels.

#5 Cherries can Help Slow the Aging of your Skin. Cherries have the highest antioxidant level of any fruit. Antioxidants help the body fight the free radicals that make us look old.

See I told you there were so many more reasons to LOVE cherries!! Not to mention that are some seriously yummy cherry recipes out there!

So the next time you’re at the grocery store, be sure to pick up some fresh cherries to share with the whole family!

Yum! Cherries are the best. I like them because you kind of have to “work” to eat them by eating around the pit. For some reason, it’s stress relieving to me! 😉

Who knew?! I have heart palpitations, so anything I learn that is good for heart health sounds great to me! And I’m about to turn 36 this summer, so the skin benefits sound good too. And sleep…they’re all great. I need to buy some cherries 🙂

Great post! I also have read that cherries (especially tart cherries) help with joint aches, too! I’d love it if you’d share this with this week’s Awesome Life Friday.
