Flexibility in my world is KEY. As an entrepreneur with a chronic illness, one favorite tools for flexible planning is the bullet journal.
Bullet journaling is a great way to track what you’re doing throughout the day, and that’s just one of the many reasons that I love it! It’s also a wonderful way to keep records of everything. You can look back and see how far you’ve come in any given week and month. But there’s more to it than just that.
Benefits Of Bullet Journaling
Bullet Journaling Easy And Customizable
You don’t need to go out and buy a big planning system or download a fancy app to your smartphone. Instead, all it takes is a notebook and a pen or pencil. Chances are you have an old notebook lying around. Grab it and give it a try! That’s how I got started. 🙂
Setting up a basic bullet journal is simple and doesn’t require you to touch any part of your life that you don’t care to journal. The entire process can be explained in a few minutes. Set up your key, index and monthly spread and you’re good to go.
Because it is such a simple system, it’s easy to customize it for your needs. If you need ideas, head on over to YouTube, follow a few bullet journal enthusiasts on social media or check out my Bullet Journal Love board on Pinterest. You’ll get plenty of ideas to help you customize your bullet journal for your needs.
Because it’s an analog system (just pen and paper), your bullet journal will work anytime anywhere, no power or Wi-Fi required.
Bullet Journaling Helps You Stay Organized
Once you get in the habit of recording and checking off anything important, your bullet journal system will help you stay organized in all areas of your life. Keep track of work tasks, dentist appointments, and your grocery list in one convenient place. The key and index make it easy to keep track of everything.
You can even keep track of long term goals and use it as a monthly log to keep yourself on track with habit trackers. But you can organize all the way down to the daily log with bullet points to break your monthly calendar into more digestible day-long bites.
The real beauty of the bullet journal is that, since it’s nothing more than a notebook and pen, you can carry it around with you everywhere. Throw it in your purse, keep it next to you on your desk, and review your day before you head to bed at night. Once you get in the habit of using your journal throughout the day, it will become second nature to carry it around with you, the way you keep your phone on you.
Bullet Journaling Frees Up Brain Space
I’ve found, that the biggest benefit of bullet journaling, is that it frees up a lot of brain space. Sometimes you just need a brain dump–a place to “put it all” and get it out of your head.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised how much of a difference this will make. Most of us don’t realize how many appointments, tasks, and random pieces of information we keep track of. Writing them down allows you to use those brain cells for more creative and productive endeavors.
You may even find that you sleep better because you’re no longer worried about forgetting an important task or appointment the next day.
I’ve always been a list writer… but it was lists and notes and thoughts on random pieces of paper. Most of which I was destined to lose… which drove me crazy! Since I’ve started bullet journaling, I haven’t had any lost notes or important pieces of paper, because its all in one place! Its definitely saved me a lot of hair-pulling and heart ache!
These are just a few of the reasons to start bullet journaling, but they’re the most common and beneficial ones!

Love it, and those notebooks are so cute! I just started bullet journaling about 2 months ago, and it’s been a game changer when it comes to getting things done!
