DIY Cinnamon Lip Balm

One of my missions for 2018 is to reduce as many harmful chemicals from our home and diet as I can. The plan is to replace the chemical laden products with natural options and essential oils whenever possible! I’m starting with something I use multiple times a day, lip balm!

I’m starting with this flavorful DIY Cinnamon Lip Balm! Cocoa and Shea butter give my lips lots of healthy moisture, and the beeswax adds a little sweetness and keeps the ingredients solid enough to carry around in your pocket.

Making DIY Cinnamon Lip Balm

In a heat safe jar, add the first four ingredients.

Place the cinnamon stick in a plastic bag and crush with a hammer. You don’t want it to be powder, just small broken pieces.

Add the cinnamon to the jar.

Heat a small pot of water until a rolling boil (about two inches of water). Add the jar into the water.

Let the jar sit in the water while the ingredients melt fully. Once melted, whisk. Leave the jar in the hot water for 15-20 minutes so that the cinnamon can infuse.

In the meantime, set up your lip chap containers.

When ready, remove the jar from the water and strain the mixture through a mesh strainer to remove the cinnamon.

Using a small funnel pour the mixture into the tubes until full.

You’ll need to move very quickly as the mixture begins to harden immediately. Let sit on the counter for twenty-four hours to set.

Makes 5-6 lip chaps depending on the size of tubes.
