A little over a year ago I wrote my 30 before 30 list. On that list was Crochet an afghan for me/to keep… well I’ve finally finished! It took me almost a year to really get started on it, but its done and its all mine! 😀 I picked the colors and bought the yarn ages ago, played around with the placement of the squares and agonized over the size. Now its finished and I plan to spend all winter snuggled up under it 🙂 I simply love my Ocean Tides Granny Square Afghan!

I’ve know how to make granny squares for a long as I can remember. I think it was the first actual thing my Nana taught me to make after I learned the basics of crocheting. It is still one of my favorite things to create, although I don’t do it often.

The afghan used 14 squares in each color. Each square is 5 rows around using a 6.5 mm hook.

I joined the squares using a new to me technique, the flat braid join. I learned how to do it using this video tutorial.

I finished the afghan off with full rounds of granny stitches around the edge in grey, soft green, mint, and teal. And I’m totally in LOVE! 🙂

If you need me anytime between now and next spring, I’ll be on the couch, cuddled up under this little beauty 🙂

Do you have a favorite blanket or afghan you like to snuggle under when the weather gets cool?

That looks great! As crafty as I am, I just can't seem to crochet, I start to zone out and by the time I know it all my loops are uneven and my squares start to look like triangles. Haha. Although as a small child, my favorite blanket was a super soft pink & raspberry colored blanket that my mom crocheted for me, it went missing over the years but I loved that blanket. Nowadays, I just steal my boyfriend's sweaters.

      Hi Sandy!
I used Regular redheart yarn that I picked up at walmart. I don’t remember the exact color names, but there is a mint green, aqua/turquoise, teal, navy and grey colored yarns. I wish ai could tell you the exact names. Sorry!
