101 Handmade Days: Upcycled Thrift Store Dishes

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

There has been a WHOLE lot of upcycling going on around here this summer. But this, this upcycling project might just be my favorite! Not to mention the most practical 🙂 I took some ugly, old, fuddy-duddy-ish dishes from the thrift store and I gave them a whole new life! Aren’t these upcycled thrift store dishes just fabulous?!?!?

Its amazing what kind of weird, strange and unusual shaped dishes you can find! I knew as soon as I saw that Texas shaped dish I had to have it! And it didn’t take me long to find a few others that were perfect!

I only wish I had remembered to take a photo of these once hideous dishes. Opps! #bloggerfail

For each dish, I thoroughly washed and de-greased where necessary. Then it was time for the fun part!

I grabbed some Krylon white spraypaint and with a few quick coats, the old icky was gone and the new pretty was well on its way!

For this Texas dish, I used a gold paint pen to bring the raised text back to life in a much classier way. I realize this used to be an ashtray, but now its a spare change catcher!

This little dish had a weird little hand painting on it, but I knew just what to do to take it from weird to fabulous! After the spray paint had dried, I took one of the 1 inch golden pineapple decals that Sip Simmer Serve sent me, and it was the perfect addition!

Once the spray paint was dry on this one, I used an emanel based teal paint on the inside of the dish (took 3 coats) and then embellished with it with some gold dots and edging. Its the PERFECT washi tape holder and I am in LOVE!

I get dished at thrift stores too. I usually use them for recipe photos. These look so pretty! Glad I found you on the Home Matters Linky Party! Following you on Pinterest (jody53)
