101 Handmade Days: DIY Color Etched Mugs

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

I have a mug addiction and I’m not afraid to admit it! I LOVE fun mugs! I guess a mug addiction goes hand-in-hand with a coffee addiction, cause I have one of those too! I had this idea for some color etched mugs a few weeks ago, but I had to wait for the etching medium to arrive! Oh the joys of living in a tiny Texas town. But it finally arrived and I was able to make my DIY Color Etched Mugs and I LOVE them!!

Here’s what you need to make your own DIY color etched mugs…

Etching Medium
Neon Pink Glass Paint
Painters Tape
Paint Brush or Foam Brush
Mug(s)

Step One: Remove any stickers and wash your mug(s). Using the painters tape, tape off a shape on your mug(s). I went for a random sort of geometric shape.

Step two: Follow the directions of your etching medium, Replace half of the water called for dilution with your neon glass paint. Mix well.

Step three: Apply a liberal layer of the mixed etching medium to the blocked off section of your mug(s). Allow to dry. Remove painters tape.

Let your color etched mugs sit for at least 12 hours and then give them a good wash before using them. Just to be safe 🙂
