101 Handmade Days: Christmas Stockings

“Not everyone loves the look of quilted things”. That seems like such a silly thing to say to a quilting fanatic like me, but its true. And its practical statements like this, from my Mother-in-Law, that keep me asking for her advice. I was all set to make a dozen or more Quilt-as-you-Go Christmas Stockings for the “Christmas in July” craft show I set up for over the weekend, when she popped over for a few minutes and I showed her what I was working on. Turns out, she was right!

Fortunately I listened to my MIL and made some much simpler Christmas stockings with cute fabric and they were a hit! I sold out of a couple of the fabric options I’d brought with me and these fun, but simpler Christmas stocking option was very popular!

I used the same pattern as the Quilt-as-you-Go Christmas Stockings and basically followed the exact same steps… minus the slightly labor intensive quilting part. I also machine stitched the turning holes on these ones to make things go a little quicker.

Honestly I’m really glad my Mother-in-Law gave me that sound advice… it saved me a TON of time and I was able to cut into some of the adorable Christmas fabrics I’d been so carefully hoarding. In less than 8 hours of sewing I was able to cut, sew, assemble and finish 18 of these pretty Christmas stockings! That certainly would NOT have been the case if I’d continued on with my original plan!

I’ll be taking the “left over” Christmas stockings with me to the craft shows and markets I have lined up this fall and holiday season and I *Might* even add some into my online shop…

We shall see…

#ChristmasinJuly These Simple Christmas Stockings are ALL about the pretty fabrics! #101handmadedays

Those reindeer stockings are my favorite of this bunch. I agree with Jessica: cute fabrics!
