It’s a couple months late, but I finally finished my nieces baby quilt! I started long before she arrived, but somehow this project kept getting pushed onto the back burner. Sorry Abby! ย But its finished and on its way to its new home now. I just hope she loves her vintage sheet hexi baby quilt!ย
I started off thinking that I would make the entire quilt out of hexi’s, unfortunately when you’re working with vintage fabrics, sheets or otherwise, things don’t always go according to plan. Because of the varying degrees of usage of these fabrics, some of the hexis ended up a little puckered.
So I scrapped my original plan and came up with this design. Hexis in the center, 1 inch white border, 6 inch pink vintage sheet border. And I LOVE it!!
I used Natural cotton batting and doubled up for a little extra thickness and warmth. It gets cold in Canada!
I think this quilt would be equally stunning in a larger size, I just need to figure out a way to over come the fabric/puckering issues or skip the vintage sheet fabrics altogether.
I also used a vintage sheet for the backing. Free motion squiggly line quilted it and hand stitched the binding. I unintentionally ended up with wider binding on the back… maybe next time I’ll read the whole tutorial and get the proper measurements BEFORE I’m halfway through the process. I think it actually worked out ok though. I like how the wider purple on the back makes more of a statement.
I’m pretty proud of this baby quilt. I can’t wait to get pictures of my niece using it. Hopefully its something she’ll treasure for a long time!
Of course this means I am now committed to making quilts for all future nieces and nephews, and there could end up being a lot of them! But you know what? I’m actually looking forward to it! Hopefully I’ll be better at managing my project priorities by then! ๐
I also went halfsies with a couple of my siblings to get my sister a top if the line diaper pail! Hopefully, she can get a lot of use out of it too!

This is so pretty. I am in awe that you completed a quilt. I am so craft-deficient it isn't funny, so I get inspired when I see beautiful crafts being done by craftmasters ๐ I know she'll love it

I have the blanket my Grandma made me (before I was born) in my memory trunk. The fabric is way too thin for any type of use, but I could never part with it. And my aunt made us a wedding quilt for our wedding gift (13 years ago) and we love it and use it often.
Quilts are such wonderful gifts.
