I love decorating for the seasons and holidays. Valentine’s is no exception, and this year I am starting my DIY valentine’s decor projects with this Dip Dye Coffee Filter Wreath!
This simple and easy to DIY Dip Dye Coffee Filter Wreath is an inexpensive and charming way to add a little pop of pink to your home or office decor. It would even look fabulous on the front door!
Coffee filters are one of those crazy inexpensive craft items that are so versatile that you often overlook how great they are.
With just $2 in supplies from Dollar Tree, a glue gun and a couple of drops of food coloring you can create a beautiful decor piece for your home!
How to make your own Dip Dye Coffee Filter Wreath:
You will need:
- 100-1500 coffee filters
- Pink or red food coloring
- 10” wreath form
- Hot glue gun/sticks
How to Dip Dye the Coffee Filters
Begin by dye-ing as many coffee filters as you wish, you can add just a touch of pink or make your entire wreath any shade of pink. I like to keep my holiday decorations subtle so I went with mostly white and just dyed a handful to add some seasonal color.
To dye your filters, fill a large bowl with 3-4” of water and add red or pink food coloring.
Press a stack of 10 or so filters into the water and allow them to sit until your desired shade is reached, bear in mind that they will lighten up a good bit as they dry.
Put them out to dry by clipping them onto a string outdoors or clothes hangers. Now, if you are impatient like me you can toss them in the dryer in 1-minute cycles, checking on them often to be safe, don’t toss them in and go do other things!
Once all of your dyed coffee filters are dry you can begin to fill in your wreath.
How to add the dip dyed coffee filters to the wreath form:
I would normally use a green or white foam wreath form but this was the only kind I could find at Dollar Tree when I was looking at the time, it will work just as well.
Filling in your wreath is a great semi mindless activity so you can pop yourself down in front of the TV to catch up on your favorite show while you do!
Fold each filter in half and then in half again.
Fold the bottom inch and generously apply hot glue, press into place. Continue all the way around, overlapping each one.
To get the final look you can see I did a layer of pink on one side of the wreath form then laid several layers of white to either side of the pink.
Now fluff up your coffee filters and continue doing this all the way around until your wreath is full and beautiful.
You may find a spot or two that you need to fill in with another filter or two but this is an easy fix.
Now you’ve got a gorgeous Dip Dye Coffee Filter Wreath you can hang anywhere you please!
It’s perfect for Valentine’s day decor, but if you’re a fan of pink, it’s really great for any time of the year, or even a pink-loving kid’s room!
