Useful Ideas for Your DIY Backyard Wedding

You can have a gorgeous wedding even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we have entered a time of loosening restrictions, you may still find it tough to find a venue for your wedding. Holding your ceremony and your reception at your home or your parents’ home can provide a suitable alternative.

You can still have a lovely and seemingly opulent ceremony, but it will cost you less to hold it in your or someone’s backyard.

Make Sure to Set a Budget Before You Start

Setting a budget for your wedding reception can save you much heartache. When you know how much you need, you can save it up, so you do not need to have your parents pay for any part of it. You also will not need to take out a loan for it. Although costs have risen a little, in 2012, the average cost of a wedding reception was $13,106.

When you set a budget, do it before you set a date for the wedding. Determine how long it will take you to save up the money to pay for a nice wedding and reception. You can save up faster by cutting your expenses such as reducing your cellphone plan or cable subscription. You could move in together to cut your rent and utilities in half. That would get you to 13K quite quickly.

Use Materials That Can Be Reused

Some wedding decorations you can reuse for summer parties, outdoor picnics, and anniversary parties. Examples of these include Japanese lanterns, white lattice, a garden canopy, or a trellis.

In the category of lighting, you can purchase small, residential LED products that use about 75% less energy and last nearly 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. You can use these LEDs inside the Japanese lanterns or other paper lighting covers. They last longer than candles, and they are safer, too.

Rent chairs or buy pretty throw pillows for guests to sit on if you have a very casual affair. You can borrow a nice punchbowl and matching glasses. Rent plates or purchase clear crockery that’s disposable for serving cake and other food items to guests.

Landscape the Ceremony and Reception Space

When you landscape the ceremony and reception space instead of purchasing potted plants, you improve your home in a lasting manner. You add up to 14% to the resale value of your home by landscaping. You can use silk flowers for the side of the trellis and to carry as a bouquet. This saves you money and lets you reuse the flowers.

Another option is to cement the trellis into place and plant ivy or another decorative vine crawling up it. This contributes lastly to the outdoor decor. Don’t ignore the front yard. Mow and edge before the service. Add a few large potted plants in white planters with white bows to the front yard. You can later transplant the plants.

Planning Help

You might not want to spend the money on a wedding planner, but you could ask a good friend who throws fabulous parties to help you plan. This can help you deal with huge decisions and keep an objective opinion around. This can stop many mother and daughter arguments since that pair typically plans the wedding. Having this partner in planning can help the bride manage wedding planning more easily plus double the number of ideas.

You can throw a lovely wedding in your yard in spring, summer, or fall. Planning and executing a home DIY wedding works most effectively, and it leaves you open to setting a date since the venue is always available and it suits your lifestyle.
