Solids Only Tote Challenge

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

I stayed up wayyyyyy too late last night, but I had to! I couldn’t stop sewing!!!

A couple weeks ago I signed up for the solids only tote challenge hosted by Ricochet and Away.

There is an amazing group of crafters with some incredible ideas participating.

I honestly didn’t think that I’d get my challenge entry done this early in the month. I thought I’d be pushing it to the last minute! But I had an idea for a reverse applique chevron pattern and I wanted to take a shot at it. Plus I needed a break from the mass producing I’ve been doing in order to get enough stuff made for a local market I’m participating in this weekend.

I started by checking out the Challenge pinterest board where everyone has been pinning ideas, inspiration and some of the results. Then I remembered that a while ago I had pinned a bunch of tote patter tutorials to one of my craft boards.

I decided to go with Prudent Baby’s Bias Tape Bag. It came with a free pattern, tons of pictures and looked simple enough for someone with limited sewing experience. Plus its so darn cute and Reversible!!

I didn’t take any pictures in the process of making my tote. Opps! If I go ahead and make a second one for the challenge I’ll be sure to take more 🙂

The first side is solid black with a bird in reverse applique and the wing appliqued.

The chevrons are color blocked patch work. First time I’ve cut and sewn angles for this effect. So much more complicated than regular squares!

I simply adore this bag! I was going to use it for a Christmas present, but this little bit of loveliness is staying right here in Texas 🙂

SO CUTE! I have an affinity for birds anyway, and I just LOVE that you made it a chevron pattern on the other side, that's such a great idea!I have got to get moving on mine. It's started, at least. 🙂 If only there were 36 hours in the day. *sigh*

You've made a fabulous, little bag. I love the colours. What a great idea to make the two sides so different. You can choose which side you'll 'wear' depending on your clothes and mood for the day.
