- Knife or straight edge blade
How do you make a DIY Faux Concrete Pumpkin Vase?
First, we’ll start by cutting a hole and space for your vase or jar. Cut a circle out of the top large enough to serve your purpose and then remove as much of the center as needed. You want the jar or vase to fit snugly and vertical.
At the end, I was putting a small jelly jar in to hold my silk flowers so I did not need a very large opening. Depending on the size of your pumpkin and jar/vase, you may need to “dig” a larger and/or deeper hole in the styrofoam pumpkin than I did.
Add light grey paint to the spackle and mix it up. Don’t worry about mixing it well – the variations in shade and color make it look more like concrete!
Cover the entire outside of your foam pumpkin with the mixture with a foam brush. To make it look more like concrete, don’t worry about painting it smoothly or evenly. You want it to be a little goopy and textured.
Allow mixture to dry thoroughly on the pumpkin.
Once dry, add a little bit of dark grey to your lighter grey spackling mixture, do not mix well, just swirl it through.
Apply this mixture thickly to your pumpkin, dabbing with your paintbrushes, or even a toothbrush. Play around with different tools to create some texture and visual interest like concrete.
Let the pumpkin dry completely. This may take a few hours depending on the type of spackle you use.
Once your pumpkin is completely dry and thoroughly hardened, you can insert your jar or vase into the hole your cut out.
Then its time to add whatever faux flowers you like to make an arrangement. I love this combination of cream flowers, velvet lambs ear, and other greenery! To me its very FARMHOUSE and I just love the simplicity!
This sweet, easy, and gorgeous Faux Concrete Pumpkin Vase project is a wonderful edition to your fall home decor. Plus if you change out the flowers, you could easily use this DIY decor right up until Thanksgiving!
