I love selling on Etsy. It’s a powerful platform with an incredible following and marketing that makes finding potential customers far easier than going it alone. But there are always challenges and way’s that Etsy shop owners can improve and set themselves apart from the competition!
As a multi-passionate business owner (I’ve got 4 separate businesses right now!) I need to know the best and fastest ways to grow. And how to set my shop and products apart from all the others on Etsy.
Sure, I create unique products and put my own spin/touch on everything I list on the platform, but that isn’t enough to guarantee that the right customers will find you or that you’ll stand out from the crowd.
I recently had a chance to ask Chris Rodgers, CEO and founder of Colorado SEO Pros some practical questions! We’re talking about Etsy SEO and product description tips that all Etsy shop owners wonder about.
Tips for Creating Descriptions That Set You Apart from the Competition for Etsy Shop Owners:
What is needed in an etsy description to get the best results?
Perform some basic SEO keyword research on sites like SEMRush to see how your customers are searching for your products and services. Include keywords and keyword variations in your description in natural ways.
Try to fill the description based on provided limits. Making sure to provide as much relevant info and relevant keywords as possible. Make sure not to keyword stuff in awkward ways, keep language natural and don’t use the same keywords over and over in every description, each should be relevant and unique to the product itself.
How do you stand out on a platform like etsy that has so many options?
Start by answering these questions:
- What is unique about your product?
- How can you provide higher quality content?
- How does your page compare to competitors?
- Do you have better information and pictures?
- Which page would you buy from?
Invest time into your descriptions and written content so that it grabs the user. Also, make sure your product is presented better and provides better information and images.
What should you always include in your product descriptions? Never include?
Always include relevant and useful information as well as keywords that make sense for each individual product, and include any differentiation possible. So if you are one of a few using sustainable materials, mention that!
Don’t stuff keywords into your description, make sure it displays in a way that would make a customer want to click though. Avoid repeating the same keywords over and over and making everything in ALL CAPS.
