So I’ve ranted before about how hard it can be for me to find cute stuff in my tiny little town. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across some fun colored zipper hoodies … but they were plain and in need of some spicing up! So I decided to get creative and I the next thing I know, this DIY hustle zipper hoodie was born and I am IN LOVE!
Want to make your own DIY Hustle Zipper Hoodie here’s what you need!
Zipper Hoodie (iron before hand)
Fabric of your choice
Heat-n-bond
Paper Template of your text
Pen
Scissors
Sewing Machine + Thread
Step #1 Following the directions of the Heat-n-Bond, apply webbing to the wrong side of the fabric. Cut out your word template. Trace BACKWARDS on top of the Heat-n-Bond transfer paper. Then cut out the letters with sharp scissors.
Step #2 Place the letters on your ironed shirt and use a ruler to ensure that its located in the center of the hoodie. If you’re not sure how high up the letters should go, hold the hoodie against you and move them around until you’re satisfied with the positioning. Once you’ve found the correct placement, carefully remove the backing. Iron onto the hoodie.
Step #3 Using a straight stitch, carefully sew around the edges of your letters, securing it permanently to the zipper hoodie. Once done, pull the threads to the wrong side, tie a knot as close to the bottom as possible and then trim the threads, leaving a 1/2 tail. This is to ensure that the stitching doesn’t come undone.
I’ve been wearing this DIY Hustle Zipper Hoodie pretty much non stop since I got it finished! Oh and speaking of finished, this was only about a 45 minute project! Its a pretty straight forward and relatively easy way to bring a little pizzazz and fun to an otherwise boring piece of clothing! Its been washed and dried a number of times, and its holding up perfectly!
BTW… as much as I LOVE this DIY Hustle Zipper Hoodie, it was impossible to wear and get a good photo at the same time. Looking back, I probably should have made the letters a little smaller, but I love it so much I don’t really care 😀 Oh and a few “outtakes” for your viewing pleasure….
In my defense… it was really windy out and I hate taking selfies… 😉

Super cute. I’m afraid my top stitching skills would wreck this, but I might give it a try.
