101 Handmade Days: DIY Tile Coasters

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

Its pretty much summer time baby!! Woot Woot! With summer comes hot days, BBQs, good food and cold drinks! Of course, those Hot days and cold drinks don’t always play nicely together… you know what I’m talking about, all that condensation that forms on the outside of your glass? That stuff can wreak havoc on your furniture if you’re not using a coaster! And I firmly believe that the cuter something is, the more likely you are to use it! So why not make your own DIY Tile Coasters?

DIY Tile Coasters #101HandmadeDays - BusyBeingJennifer.com

Here’s what you need:

  • 4”x4” white ceramic tiles – I picked up four for $.53
  • Scrapbook paper (or photos)
  • ModPodge
  • Scissors
  • Paint brush

Carefully trace your tile onto the back of your scrapbook paper or photos.  You’ll want the paper to be slightly smaller than the tile so the paper does not overlap the tile.

Trace and cut the paper for all of the tiles and set aside.

Use your paintbrush to apply a generous amount of ModPodge to your first tile.  Lay the paper onto the tile and smooth out all bubbles and wrinkles.  Apply a coat of ModPodge to the topside of the paper.  Set the tile aside and repeat these steps until all tiles have been covered.

When the tiles are dry apply another coat of ModPodge.  Allow them to dry and repeat until you’ve applied several layers.

When the tiles are dry they are ready to use for coasters!  You can also spray each tile with a clear urethane spray for extra durability.

And Voila! You’ve got your own DIY Tile Coasters! Now, put’em to good use with a glass of delicious sweet tea or lemonade, put your feet back and relax!

Hot Days + Cold Drinks = Potential Damage to your furniture! So Make your own Tile Coasters!
