How to Ensure Summer at Home is Comfy

Ah, summer. The season of sunshine, barbecues, and, if you’re not careful, turning your home into a makeshift sauna. Before you start sticking to your sofa or considering relocating to the Arctic, check out these tips to keep your summer at home chill.

1. Hot Tub Time

First things first, if you’re lucky enough to own one, hot tub maintenance should be your summer fling. Nobody wants a hot tub that doubles as a science experiment gone wrong. Keep the water chemistry happier than a kid with an ice cream cone by regularly checking and balancing pH levels.

A clean filter and a shock treatment after heavy use will keep the waters soothing, not stewing. Plus, there’s nothing quite like a dip in a pristine hot tub during those cool summer evenings. It’s like a hug in water form!

2. Fan Club President

Think fans are old school? Think again. Position fans strategically around your living areas to create an optimal airflow that can actually lower the room’s temperature. And if you want to get crafty, place a bowl of ice in front of a fan for a makeshift air conditioner. Trust me, it’s a cool hack—pun intended.

3. Block Out the Sun (Sometimes)

This is one thing a lot of people don’t do because they just love seeing the sunshine, but if you want to stay cool and comfy at home, then closing the blinds and shutting the windows is a great way to keep your home cool during those hot days. If you want to see the sun, just step outside.

4. Chill Out in the Kitchen

Turn off the oven! Summer is not the time to channel your inner gourmet chef with a roast. Opt for meals that require minimal cooking. Think salads, smoothies, and sandwiches. Keep the heat out of the kitchen and keep things cool and crisp. Your air conditioner (and your power bill) will thank you.

5. Hydration Station

It’s easy to get dehydrated in the warm summer times, when you are too busy having fun to keep topped up, and the heat is drying you out faster, so setting up a hydration station stocked with water, iced teas, and chilled watermelon slices, is a nice way to keep hydration at the front of your mind, and keep you healthy.

6. Get a Little Misty

Misting fans are great little gadgets that you can place on your patio or yard area, and they will, with the help of a nice summer breeze, deposit a cooling mist around the place, which will help to make it feel at least a few degrees cooler.

Great in those super-hot times when you just want to feel a little less hot!

7. Nighttime Air Exchange

If you want to keep your home really cool in the summer months, then it’s a good idea to open as many doors and windows as you can in the evening when it’s cooler. This will help to flush out the hot air that has accumulated, and let in the breeze, so you can have a cool and comfy night’s sleep.

Just remember to stay safe and lock everything up before you hit the pillow.

Here’s to a cool and comfy summer at home!
