6 Easy Tips to Refresh your Makeup Routine

Over time your makeup routine can feel a little boring. Some people update their clothes, hair and personal style but still use the same makeup routine they perfected years before. Makeup trends and techniques change constantly, and it could be the right time to take a fresh look at your makeup routine. Here are some easy tips for you to apply.

1. Add or subtract a step

If you always go for a glam look with heavy mascara and winged eyeliner, you could strip your look down and go for a more natural look. If a natural look has been your standard for years, simply adding bold lipstick to your collection could instantly make you look more glamorous, even when wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

Adding the step of applying natural looking lash extensions could change your routine in a very satisfying way. Lilac St., Sweed, Mac and Allure offer lash extensions that are easy to apply to your natural lashes. With lovely long lashes that emphasize your eyes, you could even skip wearing mascara. It’s only when you step out of your comfort zones that you have the opportunity to discover a great new look, and using natural-looking lash extensions could be the way to do it.

2. Try out different techniques

It is easy to get stuck using the same techniques over and over. Makeup techniques have changed considerably over the years and it is worth trying out some of the techniques makeup artists use today. If you thought you should always use a makeup sponge to apply your foundation, try dabbing it on with your fingers and blending it in.

If you always use a powder blush on your cheeks, a cream blush could make a difference. Experiment with that cream lipstick in your makeup bag. Dabbing some of it on the apples of your cheeks could give you a fresh look. Try out a different way of applying your eyeliner.

3. Toss out old products and buy new ones

Tossing out old products can make you reconsider the products you use. Eye makeup doesn’t last as long as other products. You should replace it every three to six months. Toss out old lipsticks that are completely dry and cracked. This can make you realize that you really need some new lipsticks, and you could choose some great new colors.

Skincare products don’t have an endless shelf life either. You should check the dates on your skincare products. Getting rid of an old product like a foundation that isn’t quite right for you could lead to a purchase that makes a difference to your look. Replacing makeup sponges every few months is also a good idea.

4. Check your foundation

Wearing the right foundation is essential if you want to look your best. You need to even out your complexion before applying your makeup. If you haven’t been wearing foundation, using it can make you look years younger. You may have avoided wearing foundation because it feels thick or sticky on your skin. All that this means is that you probably didn’t use the right product. Some of the lightweight foundations today offer a flawless look and absorb right into the skin.

5. Switch your eyeshadow palette

A very easy way to refresh your makeup routine is to use a different eyeshadow palette. Many of us have a couple of palettes in our makeup collection, but it is easy to get into the habit of using only one. You can also consider using different palettes for different seasons of the year. You could wear warm tones in autumn and winter and pink or nude palettes in spring and summer.

6. Brush up your brows

Thin brows were popular in the past, but now it’s all about full, thick brows that frame your face. You can use a brow gel to brush them up and lock the hairs in place. You can even prep your brows beforehand by brushing a little bit of translucent powder onto the hairs. This allows you to build a full-volume look. Defining your brows defines the shape of your face. You can literally give yourself an instant facelift by paying some attention to your brows.
