Almost every car owner dreads the squeaks of their dying brakes. It’s no fun knowing you’re about to fork over a small fortune to have your brakes done. However, no matter how you look at it, every car needs a brake job eventually. Before your car gets to that “bad” point, there are a few signs you should know about. These signs will help you know when you need to get your brakes done.
Grinding noises appear
It’s hard to ignore grinding noises, but they can also be tough to hear at first. One sign your car needs it’s brakes done is when you hear grinding. It makes sense that your brakes would grind when they need redone because of the steel made parts. Grinding may mean the brake pads are worn through and hearing metal on metal is never a good thing!
Vibrating
How many of you have heard or felt vibrating when you hit the brakes? Vibrating could be from the rotors in your vehicle. If the rotors are uneven, this could cause an issue. If your rotors are uneven, this can cause your brakes to not work correctly. All rotors in your vehicle should be even and smooth.
Squealing or squeaking
Remember that squeaking noise we talked about earlier? That high pitched noise is loud enough to hurt your ears and be a bit embarrassing. The squeaking is the brake pad indicators warning you that it’s time to take your car in! Squealing definitely means those pads are worn and need replaced ASAP.
Not stopping
A quite obvious sign that you need brakes done is when you aren’t stopping. In fact, the car may seem to struggle when it stops, which could indicate your brakes need done as soon as possible. Brakes should be firm when pressed and not soft and spongy.
The car pulling to one side
Sometimes, when your brakes need done, it’s not always easy to know what is the cause. If you find your car pulling to one side of the other, this could actually be a caliper problem. Calipers are an important part of the braking system and if they aren’t even or one has gone bad, you’ll notice your car pulling to one side when you hit the brakes.
