Despite my to do list being 9 million miles and needing to do some major making for the shop, I’ve been dreaming of doing some selfish sewing. Sewing prettiness just for me! In the hustle and bustle of running a shop and blog, plus the craziness that is every day life, I forget to take the occasional time out and make things just because I can/need it /want too. So I’ve compiled a selfish summer sewing list!
I am hoping to complete at least 5 of these projects by my birthday in August and then maybe one or 2 more before the fall? We’ll just have to see how productive I can be, and if I can stretch my sewing skills π
I’ve recently gotten hooked on Paper Piecing. HOOKED and this Union Jack zipper bag is ADORABLE! It would be perfect for keeping odds and ends in… I firmly believe it is impossible to have too many zippy bags π The pattern is free and can be found on Sew Set
This Honey Girl Dress is DARLING! Shirred with a halter straps its simple, and sweet and just my sewing speed… if I can figure out the shirring part that is. I haven’t had much luck in the past :/ The pattern is available for purchase on etsy.
I have a confession… I LOVE READING IN BED… but I can only read laying down for so long… I NEED one of these Reading Pillows!!! And I think this might just be at the top of my selfish supper sewing projects list π There is a free Pattern / Tutorial on Sew Happy Geek.
I think, that with a little adjusting for the size difference, I could make myself this adorable Bias Tape Dress! And I might have to use the same fabric! It’s just too cute with those birds π Free Pattern and Tutorial can be found on Melly Sews
All of the EVERYTHING is a mess in this house right now. I want to get more organized, but I seriously have nowhere to put most of my fabric! I’ve got a MAJOR project in the very beginning stages, but in the mean time, I think it would be fun to whip up some of these fabric bins, in a rainbow of colors to organize my fat quarters and smaller bits of fabric π There is a free tutorial on Rad Crafter
I love the idea of spicing up the bathroom with a fun and colorful bath mat. And I already know that I can sew squares together π All I need is a couple thick towels and I’m good to go! π Woot!! There is a tutorial on Quilting Barbie for this too πΒ
I really want to make at least a couple of these comfy looking Bess Top’s from Imagine Gnats. I love everything Rachel creates and I think that I might even be able to pull these off with my limited clothes making skills! Plus its supper flattering and I’d probably wear them ALL the time! Β The Bess Top Pattern is available for purchase on Imagine Gants
I only have one selfish sewing quilt planned for this summer… I REALLY want a triangle quilt. A good-sized lap version I think. There are tons of tutorials and different patterns out there. I haven’t really nailed down which one I’m going with, I just know that it WILL happen and it will happen with lots of brightly colored scraps π
And there you have it… my selfish sewing plans for the summer… now I just have to find the timeΒ MAKE the time to make it all happen π
Do you have any “Selfish Projects” planned for the summer?
PS you can follow along with my #SelfishSummerSewing plans on Instagram π

Jennifer, I love the projects you have selected, and I LOVE that you're going to do something for yourself! Those fabric bins are great…I may have to join you on one of those! π

I love that bath mat idea and instead of shopping for color storage boxes…I never thought of making fabric ones!

Why yes, I would love one of the Union Jack zippered bags. That would do nicely. π
Looks like a great set of projects, and as usual, I envy your creative abilities!

Oh my daughter would love the Union Jack zippered bag. I'm off to check out Imagine Gnats sewing top! Super cute stuff!

The triangle quilt is very cool. I am enamored with the idea of the bathmat though. As our bathroom floor in our new house is heated, I cannot put down a traditional rubber-backed bathmat down. That looks like the perfect solution!

Your timing is brilliant- I just decided yesterday that I need to sew some sundresses for myself. I take it as a sign that I haven't found any at the thrift stores, and have all this fabric and these patterns sitting around….of course, I just loaned my sewing machine to my brother-in-law. :/

I love those projects, especially the bathmat! Maybe I'll knock the dust off of my machine this summer and make one for our guest bath!
