101 Handmade Days: Hand Stitched Burlap Wall Art

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about the DIY Jewelry Display I made myself with a burlap canvas that I’d picked up. As I was working on that project, I thought of another idea for for these cute and easy to use burlap canvases! So I got another one and got to work on this fun and easy hand stitched burlap wall art!

Cute right? Its surprisingly simple to make too! Here’s what you’ll need…

12 x 12 (or larger) burlap canvas
washable fabric marker
White embroidery floss
Embroidery needle
Scissors

Decide what you want to stitch on your burlap canvas. Use the fabric marker to draw it on your canvas. If you make an error, all you have to do is wet the area with the mistake and it will fade away (thats what that dark spot is in the above image).

Once you have your “pattern”, thread your needle with the embroidery floss.

Then get to stitching! I use a basic back stitch to create this look. And if you compare my “pattern” and the final results, you can see that I strayed a little… Thats why its important to use a washable fabric pen! 🙂

I gotta tell you, the more I’ve stared at this stitched burlap wall art, the more I’ve fallen in love with it! Its currently hanging in the living room, and I can’t wait to add it to the gallery wall! Well, once I have a gallery wall. That’s another project that is in the works 🙂

Such an easy idea, and it looks amazing! I’ve promised myself to work on my embroidery again this fall while I’m watching the kids’ soccer games.
