101 Handmade Days: DIY No-Sew Fabric Memory Game

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

I love fabric. In case you don’t believe me just check out my instagram feed… My husband says I have a “fabric hoarding problem”. I just tell him I’m a fabric collection curator 😉 As much as I love pretty fabric and just looking at it, there is a point where I have to brace myself and cut into it! And that usually results in some scrap pieces. Or in my case a whole LOT of scrap pieces… because I don’t throw ANYTHING away! I wanted to send my niece some goodies in the mail, and decided she needed a fabric version of the classic Memory game. It was time to put those fabric scraps to good use! I love how this No-Sew fabric memory game turned out!

The fun little squares that make up this no-sew fabric memory game are “sandwiches” made of fabric and felt. And whip really, really quickly!

Here’s what you need to make your own DIY no-sew fabric memory game:

Felt – 4 to 5 sheets depending on how many squares you want.
Scrap fabric – large enough to cut two 3 inch squares, or 2 pieces that match and are big enough to cut a 3 inch square.
Fabric – large enough to cover one side of the felt sheets. About a half of a yard.
Heat’n’bond
Iron
Rotary Cutter
Cutting Mat
Ruler

Step One – pick your fabric scraps. They need to be large enough to cut two 3 inch squares, or 2 pieces that match and are big enough to cut a 3 inch square. Iron them flat and then add a piece of heat’n’bond to the back side of the fabric (follow the directions on the packaging). Make sure it is roughly the same size as the fabric scrap. Leave the backing on the heat’n’bond.

Step two – Trim your fabric scrap to a 3 inch square. Try to center the focal image in the middle of the square.

Step three – Remove the heat’n’bond backing from the squares and place them on the sheet of felt. There needs to be about a 1/2 inch space between each square. Iron them in place.

Step four – Cut the larger piece of fabric to roughly the same size as the felt, maybe a smidgen bigger. Add heat’n’bond to the back side of the larger piece and iron it to the side of the felt that doesn’t have the squares on it. Cut the squares out and trim to 1/8th of an inch edging of felt around the “memory” side of the square.

Now its time to play with your new no-sew fabric memory game!
