101 Handmade Days: Red White and Blue Pillow Cover

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

My in-laws have one of the cutest patio sets under their back awning. The four of us love to sit out there in the evenings, when hubby is home, for hours just chatting and telling stories. Its one of my favorite ways to spend an evening. Here’s the thing though, it might be a cute patio set, but it is certainly not a comfortable patio set! I decided to make some cute pillows to make our evening chats more comfortable! This adorable red white and blue pillow cover is just the first of the set I’m for them!

I combined to previous tutorials from my #101HandmadeDays series to make red white and blue pillow cover and its really a rather quick and easy project! Maybe 30 minutes at the most 🙂

To make your own version of this red white and blue pillow cover, you’ll need to combine the heart applique process from the DIY ‘Merica Love Tee and the Easy DIY Envelope Pillow Cover tutorial.

The only difference is that you have to line the heart up on the center of the front section of the fabric for the envelope pillow cover. To make sure it was centered, I measured the fabric to find the front center and added pins to mark each corner. Then I centered the heart to those 4 pins.

I told you this was easy! And its perfect for the 4th of July! I’m thinking I might have to make a another more red white and blue pillow cover like this for the in-laws and then something a little more neutral for the rest of the year. 🙂

Ooooh this is fantastic! It’d be cute with some tassels or pom poms too!

That is very cute Jennifer! I love the fabric on the heart. Always love seeing your new creations, they’re always beautiful. I hope the chairs are more comfy now for your patio nights 🙂

This is seriously too cute, I always wanted some hand made pillow cases and to swap them out with seasons. Thanks for sharing.

This is such a great idea! Unfortunately I’m seriously all thumbs when it comes to sewing or crafting, but a girl can dream, right? 🙂

Woo..how pretty are these pillows you made. I am no good at making things like these. How fun that you could make some for the in-laws, too!
